He's a nice guy but he is VERY disorganized. He rarely uses the board and he will never have any type of guided notes. You must take notes on what he says, which is very difficult considering he talks non-stop for the entire period. You'll find yourself reading random, incomprehensible articles all the time.Tests are mostly difficult essay questions

Comment:
His lectures are long, boring, and he talks in circles. He gets stuck on one topic and will get the entire class behind a few days, but expects the students to be responsible for that material even though most of us are not film majors. Readings are long and hard to understand. Pop quizzes go with readings so read carefully.

The teacher is knowlegable about the subject matter, but is not very good at explaining concepts clearly. He is also very enthusiastic about what he teaches. Some of the movies are so boring you will probably walk out. Midterm and final are difficult essay and short answer format. To do well in this class you will have do a lot of reading.

He doesn't exactly get the concept that people are REQUIRED to take an art class due to perspective credits. Its not that we aren't interested, but he acts like we're horrible people/students for not loving/are good at film studies. Be loud and heard if you want to pass because he thinks a C is a good grade, and makes it known.

Shocked that he got his PhD. Makes a mockery of the MidWest. Makes it known that he hates all work related to teaching. Frequently spaces out during lectures, but students are required to listen. Dislikes those who are not film majors. Doesn't admit his mistakes.

Terrible professor. He doesn't know the material that he is teaching, which is pathetic for an intro class and unfortunate for his students who have to listen to him. Incredibly unorganized and useless when to answering questions asked by students to clarify points. Unfair in his grading system and despises work required of a professor.

I do not recommend this for anyone with no prior film experience. Very nitpicky tests and quizzes. You pretty much have to keep up with the readings and remember them clearly bc he will ask specific questions on them a month later. The films are good, lectures really dull.

Really nice guy. Very intelligent. Tough quizzes and exams, they are very specific. Long lectures that often go on tangents, but still high quality.

Really nice man, and easy to understand. I dont see how people have issues with him. If you listen to him speak and see where he's coming from his tests are NOT hard. Reading quizzes 4 easy points. Takes best 3/4 test scores...also adds points to tests just cuz. Very reasonable, not a hard class.

Benelli is a very intelligent man, and if you can stay with what he's saying, you'll be rewarded. At the same time as I like him, his lectures can get a little unclear or deviate into tangents. He knows his stuff, though.

Benelli chose some interesting movies for us to watch (Jurassic Park, Chinatown) but the lecture component is dull, dull, dull. He has the kind of voice that puts everyone to sleep.
