Professor Duehr is a really nice guy but his class is a mess. It is meant to be your first com writing class at BU but he teaches it like you have been exposed to everything he expects you to do in the class. The midterm is RIDICULOUS, its a grammar midterm that you have 1 page of notes on and even though its open note and open book its still hard

He was a fine professor, but a little bit rude to his students when questions were answered incorrectly. A little bit of a harsh grader, but the assignments were easy enough. He definitely had favorites in the class so it was hard to do well or approach him

He's truly great, take him if you can for CO201. Im surprised by any negative reviews. He likes you if you are on time and contribute in class. Show him your personality, it'll be easier to get an A if you speak up! His grading is generous and he's approachable and has good tips on how to be a better writer.

Professor Duehr is so funny and a really nice guy. He wants to get to know all of his students because it's a small discussion. If you put in extra effort and go to his office hours, its possible to get an A on the papers. 2 grammar tests that were open book and open note. Had 2 easy extra credit assignments. Wants us to become better writers.

I learned a lot from Duehr. We wrote 4 different types of papers/articles. It seemed like if you turned in a decent paper, he'd give you a B+/A-. His grammar midterm and final were both open note and book. Highly recommend for CO201.

Very unclear in his expectations. He is not accessible outside of class, and you only receive feedback on your papers after the final draft. He refuses to give out A's unless it matches his preferred "style" of writing, which has nothing to do with actual journalistic standards. He is not qualified to be teaching in this position.

Really great guy!! Actually really enjoyed going to his class and was surprised at the end how much i took for granted his laid back, funny attitude. Regularly allowed student convo tangents and often encouraged class topic discussion on whatever interested us that day. ALWAYS let out class early and allows extra credit & bonus point opportunities!

I loved prof Duehr! actually kinda surprised by the negative reviews, I know my peers in the class liked it too. Classes were actually fun. Only one grammar test that was open note, open book. I know other CO201 classes had more grammar tests... He's super smart, super nice guy and I definitely feel like my writing improved with his feedback!

Comment:
A rock could give better feedback than him. Professor Duehr offers almost no advice to students until after they have handed in the assignment. He takes a long amount of time grading papers, has an unwarranted arrogance, and does not explain assignments well at all. I learned next to nothing in this class.

No feedback on papers until after the final draft. You could go to him for help individually, but even then, his comments are still quite unclear and his grading criteria is very vague. Class is relatively slow.

He doesn't give constructive criticism until after you have turned in the final draft. All other drafts are peer reviewed. Even if you do what he says to do, it is pretty difficult to get a grade higher than a B. He's a nice guy and laid back, but to the point where he's ambiguous. This class made me sure of my decision to switch out of COM.

He SEEMS like a laidback professor, and you do get constructive feedback from him/your peers but his grading is VERY UNCLEAR AND AMBIGUOUS. Even if you follow his feedback to the letter, he'll find reasons to mark your assignment down to a B. He never mentions grading criteria until after you've submitted the assignment and you receive a grade back

Gary Duehr is amazing and his class is not only easy but fun and enjoyable. I would recommend everyone to take him while you can. You will not regret it. Couple of group projects (easyfun). Few papers (no longer than 3 pages). Two tests (don't count for muchvery easy).

Really nice, layback guy. Papers are mostly peer reviewed, while he oversees. Straight up tells you at the beginning of the course: "If it looks like you put full effort into your writing piece, you will get at least a B." I put pretty minimal work into the class and got a high grade.

Prof. Duehr is a really cool guy, but not one of my favorite professors. He makes your peers help you with your work, but he does not personally give much feedback. I worked very hard, constantly revising my work, and only got a B+. He does not have set office hours, but he will stay a few minutes after class if necessary.

I did not enjoy Duehr... he doesn't really know what he's talking about. He's super easy going, and gives out A's if you do work, but not very knowledgable on the material.

Wonderful guy! He's hilarious, appreciates when people keep it real, and is a pretty easy grader overall. He really encouraged me to pursue film writing, he's such an awesome professor. Take his class! (although, I'll admit, his class is hard to get into if you don't have a good registration time)

He's a great and knowledgable guy but can be very vague and not the most structured class. I learned how to write differently but didn't get the BEST grades. You need to do exactly what he says even if you don't agree. Glad I took his class, but I'm glad it's over.

Duehr is a nice guy but a hard grader. He will only give out B+s and will never tell you how you can improve. You do learn a lot but its mostly via the peer workshops

Duehr is awesome. He's hilarious, interesting and he really gets to know his students. I love his class and the way he explains assignments. He tells you exactly what he wants and really does try to improve your personality in writing. He is a tough grader though, don't expect an easy A but expect to learn a lot and enjoy yourself.
