Comment:
I had interest in the subject prior to the course, but now I am devoid it. His lectures were derivations of important formulas and rarely any example problems. I personally found the course disappointing especially when told to memorize equations which isn't practical for an engineer. Bottom line, I would not recommend him to anyone.

I had this professor for both ECE310 and ECE322. Hands down the worst professor I had so far at UIC. 322 exams grades consists of who wrote the best notes on their TI89. There are no equation sheets on exams. His class notes are 95% of the time irrelevant to the quizzes he gives. Lin as a lecture, is not only laughed at by students but other profs

This professor is among the best in UIC. He's makes students learn the hard way which is the right way in a university especially for engineering. I guess most students don't like him because they don't want to work hard enough and challenge themselves. But as far as I'm concerned, Lin is a very good professor.

This class should be renamed to intro to ti-89. everyone cheats in this class EVERYONE. and lin does not care. If you have morals and are against cheating... you'll do bad... really bad. Lin is quiet, doesnt care about anything really... good luck to all EE people since hes the only one who teaches this class and its required.

worst class taken in ECE, everyone in the class cheats on everything which makes it incredibly hard to succeed if you are not cheating. Grades are probably 15 points above where they should be on the curve. Lin is the worst prof in ECE and at UIC.

This guy's underrated. His class is very interesting, though you will have to sit in the front row to hear him. He spends all class deriving equations but it's not as bad as it sounds. Only problems I have with his class is that he doesn't post solutions early enough and that he doesn't allow a cheat sheet. He's very nice and will postpone quizzes.

I would not recommend this prof. at all. His classes are completely theoretical, no practical applications. Moreover you'll have to teach yourself since his explanations are just superficial. Doesn't even cover 50% of the material. On the contrary the other instructor, Sharad Laxpati, who teaches this class sucks equally. Its a choice betn 2 devils

absolutely awful teacher! took two week-long vacations the week before both tests. does not review anything. does not post sample exams online because he thinks the not-corrected answers on returned quizzes and hw are enough. hw optional, but quizzes depend on it. there is no feedback on graded material, not to mention the research misconduct.

The only class I've ever failed in my life so far was ECE310 with James Lin. Indeed a really bad professor, exams have little to do with what you learn, homework solutions are given but they are kind of useless since a lot of steps are skipped. So my advice, never come late, sit in first row, go to TA so he/she expalins the HW problems to you.

He decided to take a day off before an important test. Refuses to help during office hours. Instead of helping, he tries to sink students who struggle in his class. This is the worst professor I ever had at UIC.

The homework is not explained at all in class. How are students supposed to learn and do well on his tests and quizzes? By magic? By the way, the current book is useless. Avoid this class and avoid this professor.

He refuses to go over homework problems. The solutions from the homework are only given a couple of days before the quiz. The class only covers theoretical concepts that you already know from general physics.

I wish he would give more examples in class that are close to his tests, quizzes, and homework. This professor concentrates more on general theory instead. Pretty tough class; make sure you review all of the Calculus 3 stuff before taking it.

Little accent, but talks under his breath and doesn't use a mic. Teaches more theory than examples.
