Jay is a really laid back and funny guy. He doesn't give credit for hw, just leaves a +,-, 0 and uses it as "reference" in case you end up asking for a raise grade. Exam's are TOUGH, I spent COUNTLESS hours studying and still managed D averages. However I was able to land a B on the final and thus he let me pass with a C. Great guy. HARD CLASS.

Gave way too much homework to do in so little time and basically doesnt give credit for it. Did not give enough time to do quizzes (10 mins). Skips a lot of steps when doing section examples. First exam averaged low and did not try to change how he taught. No study guides. His class has to basically be your only priority in life if you want to pass

Would recommend! He normally teaches Calculus but when I took him for trigonometry in the summer, he math bearable. During lectures, he would make some corny, but funny jokes and he posts the notes online. He even set a curve for getting a C, so you need at least a 66.6% to pass his class. Although the material is hard, it's was only for 6 weeks!

For his Calc3 Summer Class, he assigned 100 problems - 5 hours worth a night. When you miss a few problems you don't get credit for the hw. When asked questions about the hw, he would stop solving them halfway because "we can figure it out from here". I went to the tutoring center after the 2nd day and they told me to drop the class.

Jay is a funny guy, the class was always fun to be in, that's all I'll say. You definitely have to WORK for your grade. Most of the time, I had to learn the material on my own. He makes homework optional, but for this class, do it, because you won't pass if you done, there is a quiz every week and its based one the homework.

Wiestling focuses on understanding the main concepts in depth. He is very fair. He has clear grading criteria and gives partial credit. Homework is optional, but not if you want to pass, and there's a lot of it. Always available and helpful even if he does poke fun at a few students. I have taken him twice and I would take him again!

Wiestling definitely makes you work for it. He isn't hard, he isn't easy, he is VERY fair. Lots of homework, optional but you won't pass if you don't do it. Gives partial credit. Tons of office and math lab hours. Reviews before test, but not quizzes. Hilarious too!

Overall, in the end, I liked Jay, but he assigns an unreasonable amount of homework; I recorded over 150 hrs in the math lab doing less than the assigned hw. He skips A LOT of steps, doesnt draw a lot of pics or use 3D graphing programs. Hes brilliant, & if you survive, your math skills will be sharp. Responds fast to emails. Fair grader.

He's hilarious, which really helped me to retain the material. He never gives unannounced quizzes/tests. He does not give study guides, but he does spend the entire day before a test answering questions. Homework is optional, but if you do EVERY SINGLE problem he will round your total grade up 1%. He made my hardest class, calc II, understandable.

Must put in a lot of time outside of class doing hw and studying if you want to pass. Quizzes every week and test every chapter. Tests and quizzes are fair and based off of hw and in class examples. He is smart but doesn't always explain well and skips lots of steps when doing problems. The material in this class is just hard!

Professor Wiestling is one of the best professors I have ever had. He's the director of the math department and he knows the material very well. He explains concepts clearly, lectures are not boring, and is generally an all-around great guy. Also, he was very available for students to ask him for help

Great teacher. I've had bad experiences with math teachers and HATED math and he's made me like math somehow. He's funny, helpful, and fair. Tests and quizzes based off of the homework (a lot of that stuff) so no surprises. I honestly preferred all the homework he assigned because it bumped up my grade and I got plenty of practice in.

"There are a million rules in Math, but you only need to memorize three..." He is fun, very fair, and will talk to 4 year olds about black holes in the universe. If he makes a mistake on the board he does not get upset when you point it out. Fantastic teacher.

He is good in explaining and teaching but not an easy grader teacher. He will not give you study guide on test. You must learn by yourself and homework is a must. hard to survive in his class if you are falling behind.

Wiestling is a great teacher! Pros: lectures are bearable, he's very helpful, funny, tests are fair and based off quizzes/homework. Cons: lots of time spent doing homework (over 6wk summer course). ... You will be challenged, but you will also learn a lot!

Tough class. I personally found it more difficult then Math 141. This guy couldn't be any funnier, and overall great teacher. Tests are fair, based of off homework and quizzes.

Comment:
EXTREMELY funny & laid back professor, who makes the class fun. Overall, the quizzes are timed (10 min.) which I found hard, exams are on homework and lecture. Final was reasonable, and he is a lenient grader. The class was a lot work, but if you put effort in, there will be good results. Make sure you're studying the right stuff in this class.
