Lectures were very boring. Got an A in Calc 1 and got an A- in this class but with A LOT more of my own work. Basically had to teach myself the entire course.

He has very boring lectures which would force you to actually teach most of the stuff to yourself. Hope for a good TA.

This guy isn't as bad as the other comments say. He is VERY monotone and has a droning voice but as long as you can just stay awake, his lectures are pretty good. He goes over tons of examples in detail and usually covers one of every kind on your homework so you won't be lost. But if you're easily bored by a teacher's voice don't pick him.

Professor Tollefson was a great progessor despite his monotone lectures. All of the examples given in powerpoints were extremely helpful. I would definitely take a class with him again.

He talks in a monotone. However, he does a plethora of examples about every new concept he teaches, which I found very helpful as he moved from easy examples to harder ones. Sit in the front so you can hear him. He rarely makes mistakes when teaching and explains everything clearly and in depth so I would recommend him. I honestly loved him.

His lectures are really boring and it's a challenge to stay awake. There are clicker questions every day and he opens the poll before stopping the clock so you can check for the right answer before submitting. The examples are helpful but only if you can stay awake

Tolleffson is a terrible professor who should no longer be teaching. His lecture are boring and he doesn't even attempt to engage his students. His lecture slides consist of many mistakes and while doing problems in class he consistently makes mistakes and is unsure what he is teaching. Avoid his class if at all possible

Although he makes a lot of algebra mistakes, everything he says is pretty clear and make sense. However, with his soft, monotone voice there is absolutely no way you can pay attention for the entirety of a lecture. Don't bother attending review sessions, study on your own.

Meh. That pretty much sums Tollefsen up. His lectures are the most boring thing ever (I've fallen asleep in almost every one of them) and calc 2 is a decently challenging class although not impossible. For a first semester freshman I was able to keep A's and B's re-studying the material outside of class and listening in discussion.

Let me start by saying this class is hard regardless of the professor. Calc II is the hardest Calculus at UConn, so with that in mind, it doesn't help that the professor isn't engaging. The lecture slides are VERY helpful, but when the professor isn't engaging (this one), lectures are hard to sit through. Otherwise, he's ok, but wouldn't recommend.

Old-school professor who lectures straight through, reads off the slides. Easy exams. Bring your i>clicker, but he gives you the answers for clicker questions. Nobody ever asks questions of him and then they complain how bad HE is. Very caring of the students.

I looked at the reviews for Tollefson before I took the class, thought it couldn't be that bad, and i've regretted it ever since. Avoid at all costs, he's not a bad guy, but he just can't teach. You'll learn absolutely everything on your own and lectures are worthless. It's really just not worth the struggle. I recommend taking Savkar for sure.

you cant understand a word he says, his power points are useless and he takes attendance using clickers so you have to waste your time attending the worst lecture i have ever been too. He couldn't do a worse job teaching calculus.
