John is arguably the most virtuosic player I have ever learned from or even seen play, anywhere anytime. That aside, he can sometimes get spaced out, but not in the typical way. Its more like he is so focused on everything all the time that he loses what normal people would call focus. full of information/life lessons/history/good advice. Seek him

John is amazing, truly one of the things about Bard that makes it a good experience for me. through his guidance in music he has taught me so much about life in a way that is rare and amazing for anyone to recieve. and he's a totally HOT jazz musician, come on!! he tares it up!!!

I didn't take the class, just played in ensemble, but the experience I had was not good. He told me "if you want to get gigs you have to play like this..." which I think is garbage because I'm not in college to learn about how to get gigs, but to learn about music.

awesome pianist. has a tendency to move to fast and/or start giving you like all these chords you don't understand. helped my playing a lot by giving me interesting material to work on. girls beware, his classes are usually boys' clubs.

John is a good guy who knows what he's talking about. Beware: if he asks the class "Do you understand?" and nobody says "No!" he actually assumes that you do! Just ask for help, though, and he's great about it. Such a jazz music
