He was a great teacher. I am a bit sad that he is not teaching any more. I took the class in 2002, I believe. He was a great person who sincerely wanted to see his students do well in the class. I wanted to say thank you for a great class.

Unprofessional. We did most of our projects on half naked women. It made me uneasy that he kept flirting with me and others. :0( He's cool until you ask for understanding then he's all upset. He let me know I was getting an A but I got a B instead. He blamed it on admission and said he would fix it but never did... he left and ignored me afterwards

i felt like Martinez was just going through the motions when i was in his class, maybe he's been at SMC too long. He seems out of touch with current design trends. Critiques were weak. He could be funny, but he went off on tangents frequently and it became frustrating when the more distracting students were just egged on my him.

He's one of the nicest teachers in the department! He's really good at teaching the programs, dont expect to get a great scense on design from his class, but over all I really think He's a GREAT teacher =)

Lou is really helpful if you make the time to ask for clarification. Don't take this class if you know nothing about InDesign and Photoshop. He has office hours and is good at responding to email. I really liked his class and learn good shortcuts in InDesign as well as things I never knew it could do. It is worth it.

This "teacher" is one of the worst out there. I went into this class already knowing the programs only because it is a prerequisit to go on to higher levels and I can't believe he's an instructor. He grades not on what you learn but on how he likes your design and that depends on his mood for the day. HE IS A TERRIBLE TEACHER! AVOID!

Grades by what mood he's in that day. Highly disorganized, confused and confusing. Too occupied with trying to be funny. Easily irritated and condesending when he can't answer your question, which is most of the time. Follows no syllabus, often contradicts himself and gives poor directions. Absolutely avoid this teacher if you can! He Sucks!

Lou is popular with the students, but his teaching isn't that great. He goes quickly and you don't learn much - especially if you're slow on a computer. His pace was great for me, but I wished he had taught more in depth. You basically follow along and see what the program does or "can" do. That's it. (Easy grader too.)
