Dr. Szok is a really good professor. His lectures were interesting, he encouraged class discussion, and he respects his students a lot. Class was online this past semester, but I never worried about it because all you need to do is show up and do the work, and you will succeed. Would take his class again!

Class consists of almost daily reading responses which sometimes are hard to keep up with but fairly easy. Exams consist of writing three essays, two short and one long one. Use both textbooks a lot and class consists of going over readings assigned. Definitely an easy class if you keep up with assignments and read.

Dr. Szok is really a great professor. The people that rate him negatively don't participate or do the readings. Stay on top of the readings and assignments and you will do great. Lots of discussions rather than lectures. He's so smart and wants you to do well.

One of the best here at TCU, and taking his class actually helped me decide my major as History. All of his lectures were interesting, but you must stay engaged and participate in class. The essays are so important and pretty difficult, but he gives such good feedback, always responds to emails, and stays after class for any student who needs it.

I enjoyed Dr. Szok's class. He was very organized in how he connected his lectures to the readings and the exams. The readings weren't too excessive and were helpful for the exams. Lectures occasionally were boring but nonetheless helpful and informational.

Professor Szok loves what he does and is very knowledgeable on Latin American history. The class is pretty interesting and the work load is minimal. However, the work that is graded is expected to be quality. Sometimes dry lectures but easy and fair class.

Dr. Szok's tests are essay format and require hours of test prep and memorization. I received A's on all the exams, but I had to begin test prep two weeks before each exam. There is 5-10 pages of reading assigned each class and you take group quizzes during class, but he grades them hard. Definitely not an easy A class.

Obsessed with essay structure over content, will beat the most boring preoccupations with syntax into your head. Difficult tests, difficult essay assignments. His lectures are ok, but leave much to be desired and fly by very quickly before you can get the material down. Not an approachable professor, bedside manner needs improvement.

He is an extremely good teacher. He knows so much about Latin America and is very good in explaining things. He gives study guides which may be a little long but include every single thing that appears on the tests. There are some quizzes based on small lectures which are mostly done in groups of 3 or 4. Definitely recommend this class!

I don't recommend this professor--about 30% of the class dropped the class. He constantly told the class "some of you don't belong in here." You can't eat in his class, use laptops or other digital devices to take notes, or even use the restroom. If you're late 2 minutes, you're considered absent. Don't take this class if you're not disciplined.

The class is pretty easy if you do some of the reading and listen in class. He gives you all the questions before the tests so you know what to expect. He lets you miss four classes before he counts off for attendance. The quizzes are short and don't count much so if you fail or miss class it doesn't hurt your grade a ton. He's a good guy.

Professor Szok is a good lecturer and makes class interesting. There are three essay tests, one paper, and quizzes that he lets you know about. As long as you pay attention in class, take good notes, and do the readings you should be fine.

Honestly one of my favorite professors by far. His tests are hard but he gives you a study guide. If you do the study guide you will get an A. Loves and knows what he is teaching, and wants his students to learn it too. You have readings assigned and will tell you when you have a quiz. You're allowed to miss three classes.

He gives you the test in advance on the study guides, so as long as you prepare you will do well on the tests. It is just a lot of preparation.

Attendance is taken, and only a few absences are allowed before they affect your grade. Very clear. He gives the tests away in his test reviews. Reading are assigned often, and expect quizzes (usually group quizzes) over it. Optional final.

Szok's class is a writing class more than a history class, so be prepared. He has you read both books quite a bit and will quiz you regularly. His review sheets give you a heads up of what to expect on the tests. If you write out the whole review and memorize it, you've basically got the test memorized. You can send him what you wrote. I got an A+.

Pretty clear about what he wants on test but he wants a lot. Assigns a ton ids and essays and is very specific about how you write. I did a lot of work with a group. I like the lectures - he tells some good stories.
