Great Professor, Good Reviews, gives plenty of opportunity to get a better grade. Book reviews, reading quizzes with extra credit questions, read books, and watch some documentaries. Syllabus is exactly what to expect from the course. States clearly what he wants from students.

Comment:

Prof. Valentine's lectures were interesting when studying Colonial British America. If you like reading books. This is the class to choose. He gives you videos, readings, and quizzes every week. There were 13 (2) lowest grade dropped. No exams. Plus he gives you 2 book reviews 4-5 page minimum and 10-12 page final research paper.

this is just one of those professors that makes you want to quit bc he picks on the smallest things despite you acing every test with over 100, turning in every homework & knowing material. our class was a WI. We read three lengthy books & watched numerous films. This is not a course you want to take if you have five other classes me. Good luck

Professor Valentine is one of the best professors I have met. His class is engaging and interesting! You have to read three books and do a research paper on a topic of your choice, but he is there to make sure you pass. Great professor!

Amazing! He is very clear and knows his history very well. He's funny and really enjoys teaching. The class itself was very interesting, he gives a lot of information in his lectures. I definitely recommend taking this course.

I love this prof. This was my third class with him. He is very .explicit with. what he wants in the syllabus. Usually is 3-4 books, weekly quizzes and 3 paper (2 are usually book reviews based on the readings and quizzes). He is very fair when it comes to grading and is available during his office hours and via e-mail.

Awesome professor! I looked forward to his class. Interesting reading materials. Great sense of humor. Extremely helpful. Read for quizzes! (Better than having midterm & final exam). Work on your papers with time or else you will be overwhelmed.

The class is very interesting and informative. He assigns 4 fascinating books to read. There is 2 essay, a quiz every week, and a final paper. He is a fair grader when it comes to grading the quizzes and papers. Also I enjoyed the documentaries we watched in class. Overall, I really like the class/Professor I learned a lot, I highly recommend him.

4 text books, a lot of lectures, you must read in order to pass the quizzes. he knows his material and is not a tough grader with quizzes ,your effort goes a long way in his class. essays- very punctual with grammar and format , does not give easy A's personality is nice and this makes it easier to complete assignments,

Prof. Valentine is very knowledgeable. But the class itself is SO boring it is hard trying to pay attention because he lectures the whole time so you can get distracted. It was a writing intensive class so we had to write 4 papers and did a few quizzes. But for a class like this, it wasn't too difficult. No HW was given except for the readings.

He tells you exactly what he wants you to do. READING is a must. The class is based on the readings he assigns. He really cares about what he is teaching and you can hear that in his lecture! I suggest him! Also he is also available to talk to!

I took Professor Valentine's courses for many of my graduate credits. The man has encycolpedic knowledge of history and makes history fun. The man is great. I highly recommend taking any class that he is teaching.

Lovely professor! Very knowledgeable and is willing to help so long as you help yourself. Allows you to hand in drafts for your papers and gives you feedback before it is due. A lot of reading and quizzes every week though.

His directions are pretty clear, he gives term sheets and gives 5 books. 11 chapters are due per week, a quiz every single wednesday without having any idea what will be on the quiz. His lectures are the entire class and is EXTREMELY RUDEEEE to others. Theres 4 essays. YES he does give extra credit but nothing easy. REALLY harsh grader as well.
