Dr. Berg is a great professor - I would recommend him for all first year students and anyone else in the Honor's college. He challenges your thinking, no matter what discipline you come from. He's funny and likes his class to be built on discussion, so be ready to participate! He gives good feedback on the reflections you have to write.

Dr. Berg is amazing. Sign up for that class with him right now. He cares so much about his students. His course themes are "How to live a good life," and that is what he genuinely wants for his students. He is a strange man, but in an endearing, roll your eyes at dad jokes type of way. His grading system is unusual but makes good sense.

Respected and nice professor. I would highly recommend if you're looking for a MEANINGFUL class rather than trying to get it over with. Berg has a strange grading style, but all you need to really need to know is that it's a 1 for satisfactory or 0 for you didn't try hard enough. Overall, a professor that really cares about your LEARNING.

I loved HONR 189 with Dr. Berg. I think it's my favourite honors class I've taken. The class is set up around engaging with and relating to ideas from Eastern philosophy in a very personal way. It was a good academic class, but an even better self-exploration class. Not a lot of reading, but the reading you do do is well worth it. Loved his grading

Class was based on reading and in class discussions. Assignments were typing up weekly notes as well as a few essays and an experiential project. Berg is very nice, and the class is an easy A.

Dr. Berg is an amazing honors professor that truly cares about the subject he teaches. His classroom style is heavily discussion-based, and he expects participation. The main topic of the class is eastern philosophy/ways of thinking. There are 3 short papers (600-700 words)along with weekly discussion notes over what you have read & discussed.

I have had an adventure of a time in Dr. Berg's class. Every day I leave class feeling like I have learned something new. Sometimes the concepts hurt your brain but Dr. Berg does not disapprove of students expressing their confusions. His class was thought provoking and fun; it turned around the Honors College for me.

Great prof, very caring. There's a lot of reading but he sets the class up via the Socratic method- you're learning from him and all your classmates. Best prof in the Honors college!

I would avoid Dr. Berg at all costs. He was extremely unclear in his assignments and expectations and as a result, it was impossible to succeed. He is very opinionated and if you lean conservative- you will not get along. He gave me a semester grade of 89.6% and I can guarantee is was because my opinions were different than his.

I was in the class when he graded based off of a pass/fail specification system, so goals for assignments were very clear. Berg was as excited to teach this course ass I was to learn it. There's very short homework assignments for every class to help you prepare for lecture. My favorite class this semester because of both subject matter and Berg.

Comment:
Berg's classes are laid back and are actually fun. We contemplate life through old works of literature. He did a new thing this year where he grades homework, quizzes, and projects as either pass or fail, this is used to allow the student to expand their thinking. I really liked his class. There is no textbook, but he uses books and we do readthose
