His first time teaching this course so he kinda stumbled through it, but the topic was interesting and he really promoted group discussion. He seems more interested in your partaking in class then grading material so if you participate I'd say you're in for an A. He's also very accessible and understanding, though he does such at answering emails.

Professor Hay is a bit unexpected when it comes to Harvard, but if you give him a chance he's a great professor and more approachable than he seems. Yes there are moments of awkward silence... BUT he's available for questions after class, he's always at section, his lectures are always fun and clear, and you learn a lot from the in class projects.

Hello, Mr. Bruce's classes are helpful but his tests are way too easy for Harvard standards, it's pathetic, the level of difficulty is not up to the Harvard Standards!(reading 10 minutes before the exam will get you an A at least) take him for a GPA booster.

Bruce taught a huge class at the Harvard Summer School in 2011. He got everyone up to speed, but I found the class too easy and the material covered to little. Got an A with just being there and maybe 6 hours of total study outside the class. He is clear, concise and runs a tight ship in terms of TA's, assignments etc. Good guy.

took his crime and the constitution course over the summer. was great! hes sucha cool guy and verry helpful if you have questions. we didnt need a textbook just to print out the supreme court cases we were using. no one was ever absence bc it was under 30 people, idk his reaction to that. he is super casual and a little unprepared but very easy

Hay did not seem prepared for class. Expect long pauses, confusion, and unclear expectations with little feedback (Midterms receive grades with no comments). Perhaps he puts less time into the course bc it is for the extension school vs law school? Not bad, but not great. Overall: Mediocre extension school profressor--I'd give him a B- in teaching.

He is super cool. He makes material easy to understand and remember. He makes it a point that you are attentive in class. He acts funny in order to make class more interesting but makes sure that you are attentive in class. He makes an effort to know all the students and their views. Gives a personal touch in the class. He is cool professor.

Easily the best teacher I've taken a course from at this place. I think some people don't like his classes because he asks you to *think.* I thought a class in insurance law would by dry and technical, but Hay made it really interesting. Amazing class.

He is not organized, random, not prepared to teach, and unapproachable. He has these silent moments, and then says something random. Nice guy, but can't believe he is a harvard professor.

He takes a while to get going, but once he does he's really good. The textbook was well chosen, he knew the material and communicated it effectively, and livened things up with a very relevant film and discussion. Good sense of humor too, which is always welcome during the J-Term pressure cookers.

Professor Hay is by far the best professor I have had the opportunity to learn from at HES. There are a lot of students that will claim that a certain professor ?made learning fun and interesting? (or whatever other cliché one would like). However, as overused as this phrase may be, it is certainly true when it comes to Professor Hay.

I took the course for the fascinating subject matter, and was greatly impressed. I was a bit concerned when we didn't get our midterm grades. Aside from that, I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the class. Prof. Hay kept us engaged with spirited discussions, thought-provoking film documentaries, and amazing guest speakers. I highly recommend him.

Professor Hay has quite a bit of room for improvement. He needs to stop being so awkward and unapproachable. If he loosened up a bit, responded to emails from students, and did what he said he would, he would be a better than average Professor. Potential...but no cigar.

Great Entertainment Law class. Interesting lectures, wonderful guest speakers from practice, goo class discussions with multimedia. OK, the best part was when Tom Cruise paid a surprise visit with his lawyer.

This was my first course under Professor Hay. He is a great professor. There are lots of reading and they can be boring and dry at times, but Professor Hay makes them relevant and interesting. He encourages discussions and his assignments are very fair--no surprises! A+

Super teacher with an amazing attitude, nowhere near as conceited as most HLS profs. He's great at bringing to life even the dry parts of this subject, and very good at getting student interaction and opinions.

I don't know if the other commenters took the same Evidence class I was in last spring. Hay was one of the best professors I've had, way more engaging than most other profs. Assignments were disorganized and I didn't like the flip-flopping on laptop use, but I really liked his dramatic teaching style and feel like I learned the subject.
