Comment:

Professor Carlsen is a bit quirky but he sure does love and appreciate literature. He does dispense a ton of reading which is mandatory to pass the course; however, if that bothers you you might want to reconsider being in college. His choice of literature was very interesting which he had a deep passion for. I would recommend his class to anyone.

I think professor Carlsen is an amazing professor. He treats his student like adults in college should be treated and he is fair. the people that have wrote negative comments about him most likely didnt put very much effort into the course because even though Carlsen is set in his ways, hes a great teacher

Prior to this course I've had work published and have dealt with a slew of editors. I can emphatically state that Prof. Carlsen is very well versed in his subject and if you follow his instructions you will end up a better writer. His course is amazingly well organized and he is very clear about what he expects. He's not easy but very fair.

I firmly believe that he should not be teaching. His class is ridiculous. He is very boring and runs his mouth about nonsensical subject matters. I wonder what North Shore was even thinking when they hired him...Be smart, and don't bother taking his class. Take either Moshe (Mark) Sherf, Mary Mendonca, or Joseph Modugno if you plan to pass English.

he's an ok teacher (not my favorite) but not the worst. he has a very deep voice, talks slow, and will put you to sleep. his grading is very hard and he makes you have a reading quiz every class... so NO SLACKING!

At first, I thought he was very intimidating. He makes you ask to go to the bathroom. Very hard grader but makes you work for your grade. 1st class I took that I actually had to re-write essays. I agree that Mr. Carlsen is fair. A lot of people don't like the class, but as he says, "This is a sophmore level college class".And he's right, just because he doesn't make his class easy like all the other teachers doesn't make him a bad teacher. If you can't manage a C or better you need to just drop out right now and take remedial english.

Carl comes off as somebody most people will dread but in the end he's very fair if you follow the rules. I didn't enjoy most of the reading but if you do it the quizzes and papers are easy enough for anybody to do well. An 'A' is possible and I got a B with mediocre effort

This guy is the worst professor I've ever had. We started the class with like 30 people, at the end there were 6 of us!!! Out of us 6, not one of us ended with an A! And I ALWAYS get A's, this prick ruined my 4.0 average. He expects you to write as perfectly as his hero, stephen king. If you make the SLIGHTEST, TINIEST mistake, grade drop.

Prof. Carlson is the epitome of a community college professor. He is dedicated to helping his students succeed in his class, and preparing them for transfer to 4-year colleges. He bends over backwards to help students improve their writing ability and organization and reading skills.
