Comment:

Michael is one of my favorite! He's fun, super open to all sorts of questions. And for the most, he'll be always there for his students for them to grow and learn. The homework can be too much for some people who are not really interested in the learning of the program. But I definitely enjoyed the journey and my outcome in his class.

Comment:

I really enjoyed this class! The material is fun to learn and practice and I found him to be really funny. Definitely get/read the book, as you will need it for the exams. Its definitely not an easy class but is manageable as long as you practice and stay on top of things. Definitely one of the more enjoyable classes of ComD in my opinion!

Dr. Klein is amazing I don't understand why he has so many subpar reviews. If you don't have any background in phonetics, of course the material is going to be challenging. He goes over everything multiple times and tells you exactly what to study for his exams and quizzes, he doesn't check or grade assignments, and he is really funny and smart.

i loved the class itself. the tests just study all HIS notes and the books vocab and u will b fine. the quizzes just practice or else it will be hard. he is not afraid to fail you if u don't put the work in then u won't pass.

this is not a easy A you have to work for it he is not afraid to fail anyone the quizzes are easier than the test just know your symbols the test you have to study everything even the book vocabulary because you don't know which ones will be on the test he gives you extra credit for being in class on time on random days so that helps you a tad

I love phonetics with professor Klein, his tests should not be difficult if you study. His lectures are informative and he can be funny at times. I recommend this class. At first I was scared to take his class because of the reviews on here but he is great! gives an occasional 1 point extra credit for some lectures if you show up! DONT MISS LECTURE

Taking phonetics with Professor Klein was fun but make sure to study. He makes sure you understand the material and will give you lots of practice. Make sure to study for the quizzes. You MUST buy the book or you will not get a good grade on the tests. He will test you on material from the book that he does not go over in class.

7 phonetics quizzes. 4 tests. the phonetics part is easy. the tests are hard. book is essential for the tests. Lectures every session. The days before a break he will purposely have vital info so you have to come. Uses all of the class time.

My experience with this teacher was good. His style of teaching is formal. He seems quite rough around the edges, but he cares about the students' success. Well, actually, he doesn't care if the student doesn't care. You have to put in the effort. Phonetics is like learning a new language and requires focus and practice. This is NOT a flyby class.

Phonetics is a fun class that requires a lot of practice to gain skill. Fair grader. multiple quizes that are moderately hard so studying is a must. Three short answer tests that have answers straight from lecture and book. Kline will try to trick you on the test by putting seemingly obscure questions. If you study you'll do fine in his class

Dr. Klein is definitely one of the worst professors I've ever had. He is unnecessarily mean, unhelpful, and does not promote a very encouraging learning environment. He is disorganized and, at times, the validity of the information he provides is questionable.

He is co-department chair for COMD and also quite arrogant. He makes students feel dumb for asking questions and he often makes a lot of presumptions. He is also very discouraging when you ask about COMD grad programs. God forbid you have a 3.5 GPA; he will make you feel like a fool because he is very egotistical.

Great, engaging class. Learned a lot. Phonetics isn't easy! So don't expect to come in for an easy "A." A lot of practice is required. The material is a challenge and the prof. doesn't give out grades, but he is helpful if you only ask for help. Be ready for the first test -- memorize everything he lectures (no multiple choice in this class!).

Dr. Klein was one of the least helpful and unkind professors in this department. It would be wise if you stayed away and attend another institution. I left due to his incompetence and rude behavior. Many other students have complained about him, but nothing has ever done. Take my advice..leave while you still have the chance!

Dr. Klein is a challenging professor. However, i learned a great deal from his lectures. He really forces you to have a deeper understanding of the material. I really appreciate his approach to teaching because having a superficial understanding of the material will not help you in the real world when you become a SLP.
