Prof. Fenn is an amazing professor. Hands-down, one of the best instructors at Duke. If you have the chance, I'd highly recommend taking a class with her. She's clear with her expectations, willing to help, and a wonderful person.

History of North America to 1760 was the best class I've taken at Duke so far. Professor Fenn is a wonderful lecturer, very clear and passionate about her subject. She is very approachable and friendly, and loves to talk to students about the readings or anything in general. She's a tough grader, but fair. Highly recommend taking a class with her.

This is the second class I took with Professor Fenn. She is a great lecturer, a fair grader, and she picks interesting readings for class. I definitely recommend taking her classes.

Probably the best lecturer I've had a Duke thusfar, Prof. Fenn exudes passion and her class is incredibly enjoyable. Taking notes can sometimes feel overwhelming given the volume of material and there are relatively few grades overall, but her teaching style makes it worthwhile regardless. Highly, highly recommended.

Best lecturer, she provides outlines before every class so you always know what she's talking about, being a history major I've seen boring classes but she makes every class interesting by the way she teaches, tough on papers so you can't blow them off, tests aren't tricky at all, easily one of the best history professors

Extremely enthusiastic, clear lecturer. Really helps to see her outside of class because she is always willing to discuss paper options. She rewards effort, and is never vague in her expectations. She would probably be better appreciated by her students in a smaller seminar setting.

Elizabeth Fenn really knows her stuff. If you're not interested in the subject the lectures can be a little dull, but the class isn't that hard. There are multiple options for papers and her grading is pretty fair. She's an awesome professor but taking a seminar with her is probably better than a lecture

I wouldn't recommend taking this class. Her lecture style wasn't very engaging and her grading on papers is arbitrary. Her tests aren't bad, but there are so few questions on them that they are easy to mess up. That being said, if you go to her office hours and get to know her really well, then you're grade won't be anything less than a B+

Her seminars are fantastic; she took more interest in my writing than any other prof and really helped me out with research. Her comments on papers are particularly helpful and thorough. She really likes getting to know students personally and gets how stressed we are - she's good about extensions and brought us food the day we had a big paper due!

To anyone who is in Trinity, if you have the opportunity to take a class with Prof. Fenn, I would absolutely recommend that you do so. She grades easily (if you put more than a little work into your papers), there isn't too much out of class work and the tests are relatively easy.

The best professor I've had at Duke, not because she is the easiest (which she wasn't) but she really cares about improving the students' writing and will take time to help--at least in small seminar.

Professor Fenn is the best lecturer I've had at Duke ever. Her TA's are really helpful and she really gets to know her students, even in a big lecture class. Highly recommended.

Lectures are extremely thorough, which is good and bad in that you have to take many notes and remember a lot of it for the exams. Sections are lame and attendance is required. Grading is very tough as well, as she demands lots of details on the exams.

Great class, great professor (I even read her book on a smallpox outbreak after the semester ended, since she interested me in the material). Very energetic lectures. The "timelines" (short homework assignments) were somewhat capriciously graded
