Very clear lecturing and approachable. Answers questions very well and wants students to succeed. Class material is very reasonable, and exams are not tough at all. You really have to study the material though (duh), not a easy A. Highly recommended.

Thought he was narcissistic when I entered his classroom. After having him as a professor for multiple classes I found him to be the best professor I ever had. He teaches in a way that will help you years later.

sounds like a whiner couldn't hack his class, lol. if u want a class where you memorize spelling words and spit them back out, don't take one from him. He expects you to learn to think and critique and analyze, not memorize. Great teacher, gold mine of information. Very kind, patient and helpful.

Takes time to listen to questions and he is very interested in teaching the class. His exams are quite long (it always took me longer than 3 hours) and he is quite biased in his opinions, so take everything he says with a grain of salt. Do well on the first exam (fishes) and he will think favorably of you the whole semester. A good professor

A pretty hard class, but he makes up for it by being extremely helpful and welcoming any questions you have for him. His tests arent necessarily hard (as long as you studied well), but they do take a long time.. 4 -5 hours. Overall a great, friendly teacher that loves the subject and expects you to learn A LOT from his class.

Darn hard class but well worth it! I earned a C+ and have learned more from this professor than any before. He has the complete compassion that one would like in a teacher and has shown me the way through the wildlife society. I wish all od SJSU professors were as brilliant as seldom seen...

He is a great professor, however you must pay attention to his lectures and to the material. There is a lot of material and specimens to memorize, so keep up with the assignments. He cares for his students and is extremely helpful and welcomes questions at anytime.

No instructor is better prepared, cares more about the students and shares the subject information better than Dr. Smith. If you want a quality class take one of his, he is the best bio teacher at SJSU. You will work hard but when the class is done you will have no doubts it was time well spent.

Really good instructor with a passion to teach but yet a real hard test giver. Dont take him unless your really ready to learn. If your a religious person be ready to take some heat.
