Dr. Penland is very personable and tells many stories, making info. interesting, but subsequently often goes on rabbit trails while explaining self-explanatory info. He had very unique life experiences and helped me to view the world with new perspectives. From what I've heard/experienced, his Western Thought & Culture class is one of the easiest

I love Dr. Penland! He is an amazing professor, and really enjoys what he does. His lectures really make you think. You are graded by three tests, that do require you to study, but they are not too hard. Excellent professor!

Penland is very knowledgeable and passionate about anthropology. His lectures are long, but he is able to make them interesting. There are a few assignments that need to be taken seriously. However, the tests are fairly easy as long as you pay attention in class and study.

Going to his Cultural Anthropology class, Penland was an amazing teacher. Remember, you MUST read the books! You must analyze everything read. Some things may be said one way, but he will see it another. You MUST be careful. As a fairly straight A student, he is one of the only ones I got a B in. He also is understanding. Overall, great teacher.

My absolute favorite prof. I've had him three times now and I just love how he teaches. He teaches in a way that people connect with, which makes it easy to learn the concepts. He's a great guy and teacher!

I took Gifts, Guidance, and Goals with Penland and LOVED it. This class was my 8:00am class and each morning I got out of bed and was actually excited. I HATE mornings, but he made his class WORTH it! It was like a sermon each class and he just teaches so well! I can't say enough good about him! I HIGHLY recommend taking this class!!!
