Shek Sensei was a very difficult teacher, who would not help me at all when i asked for it. She deliberately singled me out in class, as i was the only afro american student in the class at the time just to humiliate me. im retaking this class at sac city.

This teacher is does not know what she is doing. her method of teaching is useless. she'll make you feel like crap. she is not even good looking. you will not understand a word she is trying to say. just learn Japanese on your own. She sucks at teaching and talking. take my advice, she SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely the worst professor I have ever had. She gives difficult quizzes at the last 5 minutes of class and tells us to hurry because another class needs the room. I grew up in a Japanese speaking home and i can tell you she does not know real Japanese outside of textbooks. Out of 50 students only 10 remained.

This class takes a lot of studying time outside of class! Class quizzes are given at last minutes of class, adding pressure to finish before next class comes in and no time to think. I will not take another class from this professor and do not reccommend her!

Needed language for IGETC, took Japanese because Kitty's textbooks were the cheapest, so there's a plus. Good teacher. The haters were just Anime-obsessed Asia-philes that were expecting a hot young Japanese teacher with pink hair in a sailor/schoolgirl uniform (they told me as much in study groups). Sorry for the disappointment fellas.

You will not understand a word she say. Not in Japanese, or English. She tries to be funny, but she is not. Very annoying. You'll be better off learning from the book yourself. She does everything right from the book. Bad Bad Bad Bad language teacher. I had the worst time of my semester in her class. Don't be like me.. Learn Nihongo yourself.

Shek-sensei was a HORRIBLE teacher. The book crappy,I have japanese friends and they were embarressed by the way that book tried to teach their language. the class was a painful/humilating experience because she doesnt hesitate to shame you if you get an answer wrong or pronounce a word incorrectly. if you want to learn japanese, join study group.

Shekk is the worst teacher I have ever had! I am japanese and speak rather fluently and can read and write ok. She told me I was taught wrong. Even though I learned how to read, speak, and write in JAPAN!! She has no idea what she is teaching. Her handwriting isn't bad but her accent completely sucks! Also she is rude and treats everyone like crap!

I almost lost admission to Berkeley because of her. Not worth the stress or the time. If you want to learn Japanese buy tapes, videos, or take it at Sac City. Don't waste your time with her.

I had wanted to learn Japanese so bad. I already speak three other languages, and this by far was a challange. She insisted that I needed to study harder because the 3 hours I spent were not enough for her. Grades in a bizarre way. Does not follow syllabus and many times will give a quiz that is not mentioned in there. Big mistake.

Wow...i must say. horrible horrible teacher. she has a very big chinese accent. hard on the students making them feel uncomfortable and uneasy. im actually surprised i got a C in the class. ARC needs a REAL Japanese teacher or Mrs. Shek needs to relearn how to teach. I regretted taking her class but she was the only one who teach japanese :(

"Kitty" =worst teacher ever. deliberatly degrades students, makes everyone to nervous to speak in class( students spend their time counting how many passages until its their turn to read and prereading them so they dont fumble) has a horrible Chinese accent, has not been to Japan for over 15 years, I suspect she is **** against Japanese

If you expect to learn japanese, just buy the books and skip the class. All she does is teach out of the book verbatum, her grading policy is selective and sketchy. If not for my interest in the subject I wouldn't have retained a single thing. She never makes herself available for students and avoids all technical questions. In short, she blows.

Not a good class. She shows no concern for the welfare of her students and is horribly unorganized. Her assignments are all premade and tedious and any thing I learned in that class I learned on my own and in spite of her teaching. Take Japanese elsewhere.

Shek-sensei was the first college professor I ever had, and I want to say that if you couldn't cope with all of her assignments and her teaching style, then you should go whine in another class. I found her to be a wonderful, challenging teacher that was very humorous. I took her class 2 years ago, and I still remember my Japanese. Arigatou Sensei!

One does expect the material to be difficult when learning a new language, but the way she went about it was extremely difficult and extremely stressful. You will NOT go one day without being singled out to answer questions, she's goes through everyone and she will shame you if your incorrect. I didn't agree with her teaching methods at all.
