Comment:

One of the worst professors I've had at Pitt. Believes his way of art is the only way- will draw on top of your drawings and can be very snobby and condescending. The way to do well in the class is to conform to his ideals and just get through, do not let your creative juices flow

Way to broad when explaining the project and makes you redo it if it doesn't please him. If you ask for further explaining he always says to check your notes which rarely helps.

Has an attitude that comes off as rude and snobby. Doesn't seem to care about students at all. VERY specific on homework; makes you resubmit assignments if you don't write certain things on the back.

By far the worst professor I've ever had. Let alone being a terrible teacher, he is demeaning, disrespectful, and pretentious. He gives incredibly vague instructions for projects and expects masterpieces - but only according to his unstated rules. If you ask a question he evades it and tells you you should have listened better earlier. Do not take.

To get a good grade in this class, follow all suggestions to the letter. No, your project will not be a creative piece representative of your personal style, but at least you will do well in the class. It's ok for non-art majors, but if you want to pursue art as a career, it's best to take this one with someone else so you don't get discouraged.

I thought he had a personal vendetta against me before I read these. Ask for help and he'll accuse you of not listening. Vague directions + high expectations for perfection. Merciless unforgiving grading. Lacks all positive qualities I've come to expect from Pitt profs. Spend tons of money and time on projects just to have your hard work spat upon.

I was nervous going into this class because he is generally not well received, but I thoroughly enjoyed this class. Concepts are sometimes difficult to understand but there is always a class before projects are due where he critiques your work and tells you how to improve it. As long as you do EXACTLY what he suggests, you will do well.

He is incredibly rude and unhelpful. Was very pushy about the way that students did they're projects - always had to have final say. Even went as far as to add his own drawings to our own. Pick any other teacher for this class.

While he knows what he is talking about during his lessons he has a very hard time while the students are working, on multiple occasions did he not only run his fingers all over my drawing. smearing my picture, but he picked up one of my sharpies and drew on it without asking or hesitation.

His goal definitely isn't to be the best teacher ever. He's a fairly good artist, though. If you're in this class for an easy credit, it's not going to be a good semester. But otherwise, just listen carefully to what he was to say and do your best to do it. He may not listen to your artistic opinion, but he is an artist after all. Overall, alright.

His assignments can be hard to understand at first, but I enjoyed his class. He was so vague on the first project that I considered dropping the class, but as it progressed, I got the feel of what he wanted. You have to create exactly what he wants (which kinda blows) but if you're on time, pay attention, and work hard, it's an easy grade.

Kill me now -- this teacher was not fun. His grading is rather arbitrary, and it's SO hard to talk to him. In fact, that's probably his main fault. If you have a question after class, I hope you're prepared to be late to your next one (as happened to me numerous times because he talks FOREVER and doesn't even answer your question). BOO.

Under NO circumstances should you take this professor for fun...or at all. He's extremely self-important and squashes creativity. He would even draw over my work. As far as grades though..they seem completely arbitrary. There are no points, no breakdowns or rubrics..Nothing to let you know how you're doing. Don't waste your time and energy.

Along the lines of what others have said, this prof is very stuck in his own ways. The projects you do must be to his PERSONAL liking. He doesn't listen to students' imput, nor does he clearly explain the projects. Also, when he does occassionallu talk to you, he stand VERY close. This was not a fun class.

i took this class because i thought it would be fun because ie always liked art, but it was just alot of work. he expected us to spend too much time on each project. even after spending 4 hours on something, it was never enough to get an A.

I had this prof for Foundation of Design. Don't take him. He is a complete ****. He doesn't just critique your work like any normal professor. If he doesn't like you, he says your work is terrible but gives useless advice to improve it. He is a terrible teacher; your hard work will go unrewarded.

The man has no soul. Sure he knows a lot about his subject (had him for foundation design) but he is incredibly dull. He shows videos and millions of slides, which can be pointless. The class is great for getting back to basics and really challenging yourself. Don't expect an A unless you really are willing to give yourself hours of worktime

terrible prof. Very biased. If he does not like you or your style of design you will recieve a bad grade. Art is supposed to be creative and unique but in his class its his way or too bad. avoid him at all costs
