Dr. Hayes is tough but fair. She can be a tough grader but does provide feedback and explanations so that you can improve. She was available for questions and appointments to discuss issues or grades and provided a few opportunities for extra credit during and near the end of the semester.

I really enjoyed this class. I was intimidated at first because I am not a strong writer. Dr. Hayes is helpful, attentive and gives great feedback. She wants her students to succeed and become better writers. It is obvious that she cares for her students.

Comment:

The content is interesting but unless you are passionate about this subject, do not take it. The discussion questions are mind altering intense, so are the paper prompts. It requires very intense thought, time and energy. But this class is great for those passionate about african american literature.

Comment:

Assignments are OK for the first 6 weeks. She states she will provide 3 weeks of work at a time but come week 7, it is a struggle to received the weeks works. The work is not posted until late on Mondays. I find this very difficult to plan my week when working 40+ hours a week. Feedback is alright but grading falls weeks behind.

She's a really down to earth professor. She cares if you're not understanding something or if you need help with something. She will make sure you understand what you're going to write before you write it. She likes for you to voice yourself and participate in class and gives great constructive criticism. She does not like childish behavior!!

Hands down favorite professor so far. Most of the time class will discuss controversial issues which is engaging and entertaining. She's easy on due dates and willing to help you. Very sweet and well educated!

Nope...ha If your writing style isn't scholarly already, get another teacher. She already expects your style to be like that when you get in, and if it's not you get an F. Hard teacher. Didn't know what was going on the whole time.

Ms. Hayes always came to class and if I had to miss for some reason she was understanding and helpful about catching me up on what I missed. I found her to be very knowledgeable and helpful.

Ms. Hayes cares about her subject and her students. I found her interesting and informative. She was also willing to work with students who cared but didn't tolerate students who didn't show up or do the work. I don't think she's teaching at U of M this year but she is still teaching locally. Overall a good teacher.

Miss Hayes is in awesome in class. She always gives interesting insights to the readings and is very knowledgeable. You have to work hard in the writing assignments, but you will learn a lot. I highly recomend her.

She only cancelled class once; she is unclear about the assignments at first, but if you ask for a further explanation, she will eventually settle on what she wants. She took attendance the first few weeks of class but that was it. A generally friendly teacher and over all a good choice.

Ms. Hayes seems all right to me. I don't have any problems doing her assignments. She seems to be helpful if you need help with your work. The only thing is that she's not very clear sometimes. She would say one thing and then change it to something else the next day. To be safe, you may need to ask her to clarify if you're confused.

She's really nice and has a great sense of humor. Plus, she's young and understands students I guess. Her class isn't hard. Just read every once in a while and you'll be fine.
