Comment:
Sherwin Singer is really a great guy. He is always willing to help in office hours, and he is super knowledgeable about chemistry. HOWEVER. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT take this class unless your life goal is to be a chemist. If you are Pre-Med, stick to 1210, this class is way to difficult and way to stressful. Take only if chemistry is your BFF.

Always willing to help during office hours, couple laughs during lecture, seems stressful but you will do fine Side note: If you're looking up Singer for 1910H you better be an aspiring scientist of some sort. 1910H is unnecessary for anyone wanting to go to med school. If thats you, leave now. Stick to the 1210/1220 or 1610/1620 sequence. please

Dr Singer is very nice but he is not that great at explaining the material. Exams are hard but he curves the exams and the final grade quite a bit.

Professor Singer is a genius in regards to chemistry. This can make it very difficult to be taught general chemistry by him because his lectures are so in depth in high level chemistry. If you are interested in physical chemistry I recommend taking this class and going to his office hours because he is very interested in teaching beyond the basics.

Really smart and knowledgeable about chemistry. Super willing to help in his office hours but at times his lectures/explanations can be a little convoluted. Learned quite a lot from the class but had to study a lot for exams, which could be pretty hard.

Dr. Singer is a great guy. He really does want to help. The class is hard so make sure you are ready to dedicate time to it. Go to his office hours. He is always willing to go into further detail or explain things in a different way. Tests are hard but there is always a good curve. Pop quizzes in lecture aren't a big deal b/c you can work together.

Lectures are clear and amusing. He offers a lot of help from office hours if you take advantage of it. Tests are tough with some questions that make you think "where do I even start?"

Professor Singer is incredible! He makes going to lecture very worthwhile, and entertaining with his great sense of humor! He does give pop quizzes in lecture, but they are partner/group quizzes so there is really no worry. Just make sure you read the chapters and do the homework, and you will be fine.

One of two professors that teach pchem. If you want to understand the subject, you should take him. Doing the HW well is essential to understanding and doing well on quizzesexams. Having a good study group is essential to doing well in this class. Reread your notes for material that was not in the HW, bc there's a god chance it will be on an exam

Crazy difficult class. Our grad student TAs stated that we were covering material they didn't learn until the fourth year of their undergrad. Most dropped, I wasn't smart enough to. He has little patience for those who can't keep up.

Really likeable guy, goes very in depth and expects you to keep up. If you can't move fast don't take this course. Expect to do a ton of outside work.

Dr. Singer is awesome. Really likeable guy who's very willing to help. Honestly his exams aren't hard; they are really very easy, you just need to study. The material isn't that exciting but he's a very interesting open-minded guy. Def fave chem professor so far, and I've had many good profs since I had class with Dr. Singer

Had the audacity to be utterly shocked when he found out a group of students had material from this class last year. Made a concious effort to make quizzes and exams as different as possible (the result was poorly designed quizzes and tests with 30-40%) averages. He gives pop quizzes so go to class. Just hack through it, the class is rough.

Although I found him to be a very like-able professor, his teaching tactics were extremely poor, in my opinion. The notes, which can be printed off carmen, are read word for word in class. Seeing as I could do this myself, I stopped attending classes after the first midterm. Words of wisdom, READ YOUR BOOK! I did way better on my other exams!
