Comment:

Nice guy, just not meant for teaching anymore. Seems to just ramble about whatever he feels like that day. Easy class if you read the 2 boring books he assigns. No attendance taken. He knows a lot but seriously good dinner guest for conversation, not so much a good teacher.

Comment:

Vardy is completey hard to understand!! His first quiz was ridic hard, and EVERYONE failed, so he gave an easier re-do and we all did fine on it. He made us read a 400 page book in one week, which was nuts, and then the paper for it wasn't due for like another month! However, he let us out of the final if we had an A, so that was good.

He is the man. His English is not so hot, but he knows absolutely everything. Just get the key points from him and if he starts talking about the Gulag, just write down the names. His tests are random but generally easy. Enjoy his knowledge of everything

Comment:

Dr. Vardy is a very nice old man. He is Hungarian by birth and starting out may be hard to understand but easy to get used to. While things in class don't particularly relate to what's on the tests, all of them are MULTIPLE CHOICE or MATCHING & he gives you study guides. Overall, while this class wasn't too interesting it had minimal work involved

Coming to class was a waste of my life. It was obvious he didn't care about teaching and thought it was above him; half the class we watched videos. He never took roll and the study guides were 9 pgs. long w/ 3/4 of the info never having been covered in class. Tests were a joke, the only thing hard about the class were the study guides.

vardy is very knowledgable of the subject matter, however he doesnt speak english very well, gives a study guide that will make you pee ur pants, it has 500 plus terms on it and you will only know 20. Ridiculous class , makes you read book Mimi that wife read, didnt read it and got a 40/50 on the essay, best grade in the class for me, i got a C.

Vardy is a funny man. He knows what he is talking about. He can sometimes jump all over the place during his lectures, but he understands shaping is a CORE class and therefore gives you extra credit options to try for an A. Easiest shaping prof from what ive heard

Had him for Russia in the 20th Century. He's a very nice guy and he knows a lot (and a lot of people) but the class itself is pretty boring actually. A major plus is that he almost NEVER takes roll.

lectures were somewhat sleep-inducing and his midterm study guide was one of the scariest things i've ever seen. you must study VERY hard for his objective tests (matching and fill-in) but the class is definitely do-able. he's one smart guy.

He is soo interesting. He knows so many famous people. His knowledge and love for Europe is amazing. He teaches his wife's fiction novel which is so good. He's easy too. Map quizzes and matching midterm and final.
