Comment:
Taneli knows Aristotle, perhaps too well! I think his knowledge is so great that it ends up being a hinderance to his lectures, it would be better approached by someone less familiar who can appreciate how students read the texts. But maybe I am wrong. Classes were nice, and Aristotle runs show. Taneli doesn't wear shoes to class, just socks.

Very knowledgeable about his subject matter and very helpful if you are interested in learning. Won't give away marks, and his monologue-style lectures can be hard to absorb. If you want to learn and are willing to work his is a rewarding class. Thumbs up but warning - not for slackers.

I'm only in the class to get fassion tips from Taneli - rough paraphrase. Great proff and a true expert. Extreemly passionate about Aristotle, but also understanding of student woes. If you are a phil student, do everything you can to take a class with him, provided this isn't your first year. His classes arn't for wimps.

Taneli is a great guy but his teaching style is very poor. Sure, he can quote Aristotle's Metaphysics like the Bible, but he doesn't actually convey and clarify the given material. All in all, I think Taneli is over-rated. Though I do respect him, his lectures are deeply unsatisfying.

aristotle wrote, roughly, 675,000 lines of text. taneli can respond to (ANY) questions (not directly related to class discussion) by directing you to specific LINES of text (off the top of his head) with perfect accuracy. 675,000 lines of text! he IS an authority. from whom do you want to learn?!

His teaching style is improving. He is a clearer speaker, and can hold the attention of the class better than last year. He is certainly still stunningly intelligent, and still dresses in his classic Finnish style. He has a tendency to speak for too long because he is personally so interested.

Teaching style needs work, serious work. Takes too much effort to understand his main point. Aristotle can be confusing enough. Seems very well read and has lots of interesting ideas and questions. Really shines when talking with him 1-on-1. Great potential.

Horrible teaching style... extremly arrogant... randomly breaks out into greek... and maybe wears make-up??? -avoid him at all costs! his intellegence is useless if he can't find a way to make it understandable for his students...trust me, you don't want this guys as a proff.

Very intelligent, but his teaching style could use some work. Best dresser on campus, no question about it. Who else would wear tank tops in the winter, and somehow pull it off?

This guy is a world-authority on the subject, so who cares if he hasn't figured-out the best format for the course?! He's fun, you learn so much, and he's open to ANY opinion as long as you back it up (so essays are easy if you know your stuff).

What do you get when you cross a Finnish rock star with an Aristotelian scholar. Taneli Kukkonen, that's what. Canada Reasearch Chair at age 29. A tad unrefined and somewhat impaired by his vast knowledge, he's still a fun prof. Thumbs up!
