Took him for chem 1 lab. He was o.k. Lab book is mandatory although he gives you print outs with his own instructions that you can barely understand all over the pages. quizzes everyday over significant figures. final is about the labs. not enthused at all. acts like he doesnt want to be there. If there's anyone else to take, take them!

Comment:
Hard teacher to understand and has very hard tests almost completely unrelated to his quizzes. Does not make complete sense in his lectures. Not a very motivating teacher as he tells that you might want to retake the course. Dry sense of humor. Will drop two lowest quiz grades only if you come to class every single day otherwise, forget about it.

Text was spiralbound photocopies w/ handwritten changes. Much of text was phrases & incomplete thoughts. Analogies were confusing. Tests were 20 multiple choice. Often 1 or more questions had 2-4 follow-up questions. Missing 1 often meant missing 3-5 (up to 25%). Tests weren't accurate in determining comprehension, & nothing like practice tests.

He teaches like we should already know the basics. He has a lot of material to cover in a short time so he rushes through some material. You have to make the effort to go see him on your own time if you don't understand something. But do it, its worth it and he'll help you as much as he can. Tests are hard.

Took in Fall '09. He acted like you already knew the basics so he would just show you shortcuts but not the actual basics you need in chemistry. On the tests, if you could figure out what he was asking you, you still didn't know what he wanted most of the time. He speaks very monotone and never moves from the overhead. Felt like a waste of time.

By all means, take another professor. I never missed a class, did all the hw & I barely managed a C. Not very clear in explanations. If you already know chem, I guess he'd be ok to take. Constantly made students feel stupid for asking questions which discouraged me from asking any. Tells you to see a tutor if you don't understand the 1st time.

I took him for Fall 09.He wasn't very clear in explaining much of anything. Sometimes I understood what he wanted. I went to class everyday and but still was lost. The tests are confusing and the practice sample tests are not at all like his exam.Final exam was very, very, very hard.

If you don't need a higher chem take him. He uses baby steps to teach, but beware his tests can be quite confusing. Many failed. It is all in word problem format. As the other user stated, only helpful to a certain point. Don't challenge him in class, he will get irritated. Ask him after if you disagree with something. Good Luck!

He teaches a lot of neat tricks to make things easy. His tests are extremely hard not because of the material but because you are not even sure what he's asking. I asked questions a lot and all he told me was that I'm obviously not getting it and I should retake the course. BTW I'm a science major, a junior, and I had (before this course) a 3.9 GPA

Don't buy book, prof. uses his own. Worked very hard in this class but only got a B. Made all A's in my other classes. Prof. will help you to a point then he will send you to a tutor. Prof. talked into some of our exams using up much needed time. Don't take this class if you need to take a higher Chem. you will be lost. Beware!

Don't take him! I made A's throughout class and he gave me a B! He is vague and very condescending. If u don't have a strong sense of self he will knock u down til u drop his class. He's mean and grades unfairly.

He makes his class easy to pass, easy to make a great grade. Other than that if you need chemistry after his class you might be behind. Very quirky and you will bond with other classmates mocking him.

He teaches Chemistry out of his own book(if you want to call it that) Labs are e-z. My wife, a Chem major, says that he does not apply proper formulas in his book, not too good teacher. A bit strange.

Was totally lost in chem 1412. He taught short cuts that worked only for his class. 1412 was hard because he didn't teach a variety and I was expecting it to be A+B=C and Chem is not always that way. Take if u r not a chem major or don't need Ochem because then u will be lost.

Dry sense of humor. Good guy, very helpful (just ask). Teaches out of his own manual, you won't need the text until second semester. I disagree with the person who said he won't give you what you need to know for 1412. I got A's in both classes, it just requires you to bust your butt a little. Quizzes are huge and can make or break your A.

Teaches out of his own bk. Forget everything you've ever heard/read/learned in chem b4 this cuz he wants u to do it his way. it's easy but in 1412 u will be lost/behind. Dont question his tests in front of students, he gets mad and wont give u points; ask him after class. Curves final grade a lot if he sees that u r trying.
