I took this course in 2011, prior to moving to Minnesota. Yes, this class was challenging, however this should teach anyone with an entitled perspective that it takes hard work to get anywhere in life. This is a literature course, and comprehension is key; this Professor will hold you accountable. If you are interested in learning, apply here.

12 books assigned to read in one semester on top of a quiz almost every class, I'm not sure how any learning is supposed to be done here. We almost never talked about the books we read, if we did it was in the last 5 minutes of class after a quiz, and the quizes were extremely specific.

one of the hardest classes i have ever taken but forget what all these other posters say! if you value knowledge youll appreciate the challenge of this class. i hated it in the beginning but turned out to be one of the most rewarding classes i ever took. she teaches the literature and the philosophy behind it.

Hardest class i have taken in my life. There is way too much reading in this class for one semester. Teacher will jump through hoops to help you- but this class is like something you would take to receive your doctorate- avoid if you don't have a large interest in reading/english

I had this class online and there must have been over 1500 pages of material to read about PAINTINGS. Then, on top of that we had to read THREE plays. Then, we had to watch five movies and write about all of them. ON TOP OF THAT, we also had to listen to music. Twenty quizzes, countless papers to write. Yeah, I would say avoid this class.

Assigned 9 books for 16 week course. Beginning of semester was rough, reading anywhere from 150-250 pages a week of tough material. Quiz on everything we read. Makes sure quizzes are on stuff that isn't on Sparknotes. Unless you have a lot of time on your hands, avoid this class.

A strange journey. An enjoyable class, provided you do the work. I would take another class with her. Diversity is the key.

A fair amount of diverse material to cover in a short amount of time. Worth taking her class just to get a spectrum of ideas that are out there.

WAY too much reading material in such short periods of time, with very vague tests to go with them. For a class built upon open-minded authors and their work, Elaine is far too biased in her teaching and debates.
