dahlem is great person but zoom lectures literally just consists of him reading a powerpoint. theres a worksheet for every class with in class activity worksheets and quizzes.. so much that grading is never up to date. honestly, this class is practically self taught.

Comment:

Fairly hard for an intro class. Lots of quiz grades. Preparation is needed. Exams are short answer/multiple choice. Dahlem is a good professor, I just think he makes the intro class a bit tougher than it needs to be. Online textbook was required for reading grades.

This class is insanely hard for a 100 level class. Excessive amounts of homework and quizzes, this class was seriously non stop with the work load. He needs to realize that we're not all biology majors and stop making the class extremely difficult.

Comment:

Dahlem's BIO120 class is a great intro to biology class. He provides worksheets that you can fill out and use on open notes quizzes, and exam questions come straight off the worksheets as well. 2 very easy writing assignments are required. As long as you fill out the worksheets and study a little bit, you'll pass easily.

I loved Dahlem he makes it easy to take notes and understand information! If you need help in this class he is always happy to take time outside of class to help you. Tests are a little harder but if you communicate with him and study you should be fine!

Hardest class I've ever taken other than Organic Chem. Great guy, sweet, passionate about bugs. Tests and quizzes are really hard but homework is really easy. Must be there for labs and have to study. If you dont study you will not pass.

Comment:

While I would agree with the majority of other reviews that Dr. Dahlem's class was work intensive as well as difficult, overall it was not a bad class. With nearly every lecture came a worksheet to complete, but these served as study guides for the tests. Lectures tended to be boring, but attendance is one of the many grades in the class.

Very hard. Quiz everyday, homework everyday. Tests are way too hard, study guide doesn't help too much. He's a nice guy but needs to stop with all the testing, trick questions and hard quizes.

Dr. Dahlem is a great guy. Passionate about his field, but the amount of work you have to do in this 100 LEVEL class is insane.. every day of every week something has to be completed. You can skip class, attendance isn't a grade but each class is worth 5 points registered through a clicker device you have to buy. I DO NOT recommend taking him!

This is way too hard for a 100 level class. He is nice but he just reads off the powerpoints. He has too many quizzes and his tests are over too many chapters so it is hard to really learn anything and retain it. All of the tests besides the final are 60 percent short answer and 40 percent mulitiple choice (A-E). Do not take this professor.

He's a great guy. You have to read and do a worksheet before every class because there are pop quizzes. On the exams you have to give the exact definition of terms. It's okay to skip class but I never did.

You will work harder in this gen Ed course than in some higher level classes. Hours of homework each night are required of you want to pass and the lectures will bore you to death. If you don't love biology don't take Dahlem. He's a tough grader and you'll have quizzes almost everyday.

It was nice to have a professor so passionate about what he does and willing to share that passion. He expects work but is not difficult. One of the most fun classes I had (ento) and changed my career path completely.

His lectures are scripted, and he never strays from what he was going to say. He reads the powerpoints to you, even though they're posted on blackboard. "Pop quizzes" are always expected, you'll have them every week. Exams are extremely hard if you can't memorize the book. I don't recommend taking him if science is not your strong point.

He wasn't very clear in the material and if you ask for help he says he will help you but never does effectively. I did not enjoy this class at all and it's a 100 level class that is as hard as a 300 level plus tons of work. I studied two weeks for tests and still didn't do well.

This professor gives hours of homework and a pop quiz every class. He doesn't explain the right answers to the homework so it's hard to know if you're studying the right material for his tests but if you don't answer the test questions exactly how he expects then he marks it wrong. Avoid this class by all means possible!!!

Toughest class I've taken by far. Professor Dahlem doesn't offer any help outside of class nor does he explain anything in class so if you're taking his class prepare to teach yourself all of the material from the book. I would suggest taking this class with a different professor if you want to pass.

Comment:

I'm probably judging harshly but for a general education course, this class is unnecessarily hard. They test are complete BS. He doesn't put anything from the notes actually on the test. The majority of the questions are trick question. You go over an entire section of notes and get tested by him putting the word and you writing out the entire def.

He is very through. He expects exact answers on test, which are short answer and multiple choice. There are lots of grades, which gives you a good chance to bring them up, but also many chances to take you down. You do alot of work and alot of studying. Prepare to really study 3 hours for every credit hour for this class.!
