Despain was great, if youre taking him for Econ be prepared to work. Honors classes, hell make you read but its all about conversation. If you can describe what youre feeling and do it often, youll do fine. I was his TA for a year as well so take my advice!!

Comment:

Professor Despain is one of the worst at Nichols College. If you want to sit in a classroom and learn absolutely nothing, this is the professor for you. I felt as if my time was being wasted. Professor Despain does not give homework/classwork. He expects you to read the book and teach yourself. He will give you an exam on material you didn't cover.

Comment:

Professor Despain is highly intelligent, entertaining, and is just straight up a great guy. He is very supportive of students in and out of the classroom. He helped our track team out tremendously when we needed a faculty member to claim to be our coach, but Hans was a knowledgeable distance runner and passed tips on willingly.

There's not a lot of actual work in this class, just a lot of reading. But he goes over most of the reading, so even if you actually don't read you pretty much still know what happened. He's a great teacher not only in education, but also life lessons, and if you take his class you're going to always remember something he said at one point.

If you prefer teachers who give notes, have powerpoints, set deadlines and follow a syllabus, pick a different professor. His classes are very laid back, and are based primarily around discussion. Tends to get off topic a lot, but knows his material.

Took Urban & Regional Economics with Hans and he is fantastic. If you are someone who needs structure and to stick to the syllabus guidelines, you will not enjoy his teaching style. However, if you like being able to speak in an open forum about a multitude of topics that are not always entirely relevant but interesting, take Hans!

Had him for a pre-honors seminar economy course. Very intelligent guy, and really cares about his students. Likes class discussions and students who participate. Pretty easy teacher, and very easy guy to get along with, one of the best at Nichols. Highly recommended for any subject.

Professor despain is a laid back yet very intelligent individaul. he is very patient with his students and is passionate about teaching. I found his classes to be interactive and interesting althogh challanging at times. i would recommend choosing professor despain for any economic classes.
