Comment:

Great teacher! If you want to learn how to speak in public well, take this class. Attendance and participation are important, as any other course in college. She is clear and easy to understand. The handouts and the constructive criticism that you'll receive from her are useful and will make you grow as a speaker and student. Super recommended!

Comment:

While it seems intimidating at first, by the end of the semester Judy will teach you how to be able to get up in front of a group and present. Its a life skill-which she cares more about than just getting you through the class. Judy REALLY cares about the success of her students and is more than willing to help if you need it. I give her an A++ !!

She was a tough grader on the first speech, she gave no slack on it. She expects you to have the art of speaking down as soon as class begins. Her expectations are not in line with a beginning student. Dropped her a couple weeks after my first speech trying to like her but I just couldnt. shes known for not being so strict after many ppl drop.

She can be kind of unclear over grading and assignments, but other than that she is a great professor, and very inspiring. Gives great feedback to assignments. All you have to do is participate in class and take the work seriously and it's an easy A. Plus she encourages class discussion, which I loved.

Judy is absolutely an amazing teacher. As long as you show up to class everyday and PREPARE for your speeches then she'll love you. She understands that the first couple speeches are going to be difficult and cuts you some slack. As long as you follow the speech rubric you will pass. Awesome teacher and classes were always fun and enjoyable.

Judy is a nice person but really isnt clear for her grading. She seemingly gives grades randomly or is very biased at grading (student she likes will give a bad speech and get 100%). She will forget things she said previously regarding the speeches and then deduct points for things you didnt need to have. Wouldnt take this class again honestly.

I was always afraid of public speaking, but with Judy's help I can now say I overcame that fear! This class was lifechanging and because of it, I entered the district public speaking contest and got 2nd! Follow the outlines, practice your speeches and listen to her feedback. Judy is truly the best professor Ive had at SCC. TAKE THIS CLASS!

Judys public speaking class is incredible. I gained such confidence in this class especially since Judy entered me in a Maricopa County Speech Contest. I won 1st place and won $100, and the people who placed 2nd and 3rd were also Judys students. I would take this class a million times over again, and would recommend to anyone interested.

She isnt a bad teacher but not everyone is for everyone. She completely embarrassed me, talking about my speech like she was disgusted bc i read from my note card. I was terrified so the fact i stood up there at all i was proud. She also mentioned mentioned i didn't prepare enough which i actually did my nerves just got the best of me.

Judy is phenomenal!!! I was a shy student that did not want to be the first to speak to WANTING to be the first to speak! She knows how to transform you into a great speaker and gives good advice. Majority of the time, you are listening to her speak while 30% you're listening to your peers and 10% you're speaking. Show up, participate, and pass!

Show up everyday, don't use ur cell Phn & raise ur hand. no eating either (manners). do NOT be absent on ur speaking days. (gives 0) go to the writing center. she can tell if you practiced speech or speaking 'off the cuff'. seems mean at first but she's so funny & you'll learn tons. no homework, just prep for speeches. she knows she says OKKK a lot

She seems tough on day 1 but you'll love her class. She's friendly and loves students. Keys to an A: follow her outlines for speeches, utilize the free tutors at the writing center, 1/3 of grade is to just SHOW UP, you MUST be prepared for your speeches but know that she's very lenient regarding if you're just nervous. Lots of positive feedback.

Doctor Balan is a great, inspiring, challenging, and supporting professor. For many, this class becomes life changing. I learned a lot from her class, specially, I overcome fear over public speaking. She keeps the class engaged with interesting topics. I strongly recommend her class!

Judy..... OMG, Judy Balan is "Phenomenal"! All her lectures are quite engaging and I enjoyed ever taking her class. She makes you come out of your comfort zone by encouraging to give "personal speeches" about yourself. If you ever want to become a versatile Public speaker in life, Pick Judy's Class!!! P.S: Dont say I didn't tell you!

Judy is simply the best. I was excited to take public speaking to conquer my fear and I wouldn't have been able to do it without her. Judy teaches life lessons, she truly prepares you for the real world. She is hilarious, very entertaining and truly cares about her students. I'd take this class every semester if I could. I highly recommend it.

Judy is one of the best communication teachers around. "She is the textbook!" Which means Judy contains all the information you need to succeed, not only in this class but in real life. Her passion for the subject will ooze into you, making you a better speaker. Because of this class, I entered and won the MCCD speech contest, and so can you!

Of all of the professors I've had, Judy was by far one of the most influential & impactful. Her public speaking course was insightful & beneficial in a way that few courses are. Judy cares deeply about her students, & teaches important life skills that are invaluable in every walk of life. Whatever your major, take at least one course with Judy.

I took COM225 and I absolutely dread public speaking. After taking this class I left more confident knowing I could speak in front of people. Judy is a really good teacher and make sure no one feels scared by public speaking. I would definitely recommend Judy if you have to take COM225 for your degree.

I took COM225 because it was mandatory for my degree, but also to challenge myself. Since taking Judy's class I can converse with anyone in any setting! I had no idea the class would have such an effect on my life. I nailed an interview using the skills she taught me and have a great job now! This class is for people wanting to get ahead in life.
