Comment:

Very smart and well organized. Also very brash and callous. Purposefully creates an environment tinged with friction and fear. Will assign 7 cases and only cover 3 of them. Tests about 10-20% of what he taught during the semester on his exams, and has a repugnant grading system where one question can drop you a whole grade.

Professor Clifford is really tough in the sense that you have a lot of reading and have to do it if you want to succeed, but he explains really complex laws and theories in a really understandable way and works really hard to help each student succeed, as long as they're willing to put the work in. Clearly has a passion for teaching.

Comment:

Clearly cares so much about how much his students learn and succeed. An incredibly difficult professor, but always available to help students to make sure they have everything they need to excel. Dont take shortcuts, review the slides, do the reading and IRAC everything and youll be fine.

Don't listen to the rumors . If you fail this class, its because you didn't study or do your work or go to class. The guy is a decent prof. He tries to scare you (maybe for your own good). I finished with an A and A+ and I am of average intelligence. Its law school, work hard or you won't succeed. Didn't care for his personality though.

Professor Clifford is a great teacher. His course is rigorous and challenging. One might say the most difficult first year class. On the other hand, he is the first to invite you into his office if he spots you in the hallway. He is kind and welcoming. He will go out of his way to assist you. Be prepared to work hard. He clearly likes what he does.

An extremely difficult professor. He will push you to the limit because he wants to prepare you for the bar. You cover a lot of material in a very short time so do not even think about cramming. You will be forced to brief every case AND know all the material because the final is CUMULATIVE. Overall, he does it for your own good so don't complain.

Maybe the best educator at UMass Law. Definition of a stickler, but really cares that students learn. A difficult class but information is clear and laid out logically and is highly organized. You will probably learn more in this class then your other first year classes combined.

The class was difficult. A lot of the information comes from the slides, so you need to know them. The professor is always willing to help during office hours, answer questions, and explain confusing material. Wonderful professor! You will work hard in this class, but you will learn a lot.

He is insanely hard in the sense that there is a lot of info in a short amount of time. He tailors each year to the previous bar so you are up to date with the bar. KNOW HIS SLIDES!! He is amazingly helpful and though hard, you will know this material if you put in the work. Hard, friendly, and helpful. Wonderful professor.

This class drove me bonkers. Please, no more vertical privity!! In order to pass this class, one must study very hard every day. Professor Clifford is very organized and covers a wealth of material in a very short time so it is important to keep up from the beginning.

Literally know those powerpoint presentations liek the back of your hand. He will fail you by one point and then take your mom out for a ncie seafood dinner. Seriously- go see him. Dont be scared to meet with him if you have any questions..not scary in person. Very nice and helpful.
