Does not do much as far as showing you how to use your camera, but will help explain it to you if you ask him. Most classes are open lab, where you just show up with your laptop/camera with questions or ideas to present to him. Show up regularly and discuss your ideas with him, and you will do well. He likes students who show they make an effort.

He does nothing to engage the class in assigned projects except for presenting slide shows of other photographers' work. 75% of class meetings were open lab in which he wasn't present half of the time. Lastly, he's a VERY subjective grader. If your artistic vision doesn't coincide with his, he will give you a subpar grade. His style is classic B&W.

He's a nice guy but does little as far as teaching you to use a camera. He mostly just gives you slideshows of other photographers' work...for inspiration? He also will tell you not to do projects one way but will praise those who do it anyway. Can be helpful if you ask for it. Prepare to spend $ to print+mount photos. Easy...hardly went to class.

Mr. Dawson is a nice guy but he will not give you that A unless you ask for help or attend his Adobe Lightroom sessions. However, his grading seems to be off and I found that he grades with people he mostly talks to. Can I say "favorites" too ? I got an A and during the final I found out that he gave A's to people who dont deserve it when others do.

not only a great teaacher but a great class as well. Doing the printing in the darkroom is difficult the first time, Dawson was always available if help was needed. Also, when he gave his opinion about a students work, it was always in a kind manner, giving suggestions on how to improve which was very calming considering the fact that I was nervou

I got an A-. Photograph interesting subjects or concepts, because nobody really wants to see stuff you shot because you couldn't think of anything. Make your prints during class time and show them to the prof., especially in the beginning. Use all of the 5 lab days in the lab. Develop your film on the first day. Do extra credit for an A.

Knows a lot about photography. Slide shows got a little long sometimes, but there isn't really much you can teach in a classroom when it comes to photography. You need to get out there and practice in the lab. He was always very helpful if you had a question and laid back with due dates. Nice guy.

Really nice guy, but not exactly what I was expecting as far as teaching style/course content goes. Spent most time working on manipulating images in computer rather than learning techniques on how to take a great picture. Will help you if you ask. Easy A

very cool and laid back guy but still expects quality work. As one reviewer already said, he doesn't put too much out there, but ask him anything and he will help you out!

Great teacher who needs to actually push people further to make more quality prints. Whoever said below that it was hard to print so many prints is a lazy ass! Take pictures and stop ****ing, the professor is really good. He minght not talk much in class, but ask him anything and he'll be very helpful.

Very pleasant and easy to approach person. He stresses making the best print possible, but his office doors are always open during lab hours so he's always willing to critique your prints to improve them. Very open-minded when it comes to your projects.

He's okay. Nice guy but doesn't have the kind of teaching style i was looking for. He's all about the perfect print. I didn't learn techniques i think i should for an intermediate class. He likes metaphor too.
