He gives good lectures before every lab, he's worked in the industry and knows his stuff, and he wants you to learn. However, he's a really tough grader, really makes you work to succeed in his class, and lab reports are very long. Overall, he's a pretty good teacher, but you definitely won't get an easy A in this class.

Though his expectations can be unclear - he is one of the best most experienced and knowledgeable professors at San Jose State University. You would be lucky to take a class with him. Above average difficulty - but in a good way.

The best way to summarize his class is: He expects 100 different things from you, only tells you to do 50, then gets mad at you for not doing the other 50 things he never told you to do. And of course penalizes you for not doing what you never knew existed. Oh and anger issues. He never got mad at me but I see him yelling at others everytime

Probably the most intelligent and helpful members of the EE department at SJSU. He expects very high quality of work from you, however. For a 1 unit class, you'll be spending upwards of 6-8 hours writing lab reports per week. If you're not afraid of the workload, you will learn A TON of practical knowledge in his class. A true 10/10 professor.

Comment:
He expects so much from you yet gives no indication to what he actually wants. Then harshly punishes you for not giving him what he wants. The reports are required 10+ pages and easily 6+ hours to do. Spends so much time talking nonsense and causes you to rush the lab. Better have a masters in msterials to understand concepts, then it'll be easy.

Jones was an awesome professor. Even though I had an early morning session his exciting lectures were the highlight of my day. Each lab was carefully explained, and he even made himself available during and after the lab period to assist us. Lab reports are time consuming but manageable (3 hours of work or less). I highly recommend this professor!

Professor Jones is one of the smartest members of the EE department. He is very clear on his lectures before performing the labs, he really makes them straight forward! As other have said, lab reports take some time (roughly 6 hours), but they are easy to do. As for the Midterm and Final, they are VERY similar to lab. I got an easy A.

Very meticulous and strict on lab reports. Corrects them word by word. Gives generous grades if you follow the lab report rubric though. He is more than willing to help you with your doubts if you ask DURING the lab. Record every single step and in the notebook. Make sure you have all the stuff you need for the report before leaving the lab.

Definitely not an easy class, the time spend on doing the lab in class and writing reports is intense. He is very clear on what should be done in each class and very helpful. He is very strict on the notebook and lab reports along with midterms and finals. He expects the best of you but is willing to help.

Very lovely man. I learn a lot of this man by asking him many questions. His explanations are quite confusing, so better read the experiment and highlight it. Even though this is your 1 unit class, you get to write formal lab report every week. Yup, the work is liked 3 units class. But, it's not too bad. Finish your lab as soon as possible

Dr. Jones is a clear lab lecturer, a helpful professor, and a really kind and genial man. He is quite difficult as he has very high expectations, but he's clear in his expectations and provides very helpful feedback. I only wish he could also teach EE98 as I learned more in his lab class than I ever learned in the EE98 lecture.

Dr. Jones is great! He keeps the lectures concise and is helpful when you get stuck. Exams are fair, no trick questions. Lab reports require extra effort. Finish them early so you can get them checked during office hours for missing items. It's impossible to get an A, but only moderate effort ensures a B. Just get ~80% on each lab and you'll be OK.

Prof Jones is a goldmine of information and experience. Not a tough professor, he just holds your reports to a high standard. If you pay attention during the lab and put some honest effort into the reports, you will find that the mid term and final are both super easy. Easy to approach, he really likes to have students understand the concepts.

This guy is ridicoulous, he makes you work like this is a 10 unit class. insteadof actually learning from this lab, you constantly have to be worried about what little details are missing from your reports. He treats the reports like this is kindergarden and everything has to cosmtically look good. mid term and final are super hard.

He is very willing to help you during the lab if you have a question. But, he is very strict on his lab reports and lab notebook as he wants you to list the equipment you used, the circuit diagrams for every circuit you make, and how were every measurements were made.

I just wanted to come in here and give professor Jones some props. This is my 2nd time taking a lab with him (first time being EE98) and I must say that although he makes his labs difficult, he is always available to help and takes his time explaining stuff to you. And he will stay overtime to make sure you understand the concepts.

Comment:
He grades lab reports very harshly, after not being remotely clear on what he wants. Too much content is not lab-appropriate - it's more for lecture. He will easily take an hour explaining stuff nobody cares about, thus making you rush or spend extra time finishing it. He will also mark your report late if you walk in 5 minutes late, which is lame.

Lab reports take FOREVER. At least 6 hours minimum/wk to get above a 80%. This is because he isn't clear on what he wants from the labs sometimes. He is VERY helpful I learned sooo much from his class. Go into his office hours and he usually explains things great. Strict grader, and took the whole 3 hours every week. Recommend for anyone.

Probably the smartest professor I've had since I've been at SJSU (he knows the answer to EVERYTHING.) Extremely helpful; comes running when you call his name in lab. Gladly helped my partner and I with a week-overdue prelab question. Loves to see students learning; does whatever he can to help students understand. True: lab reports do take time!
