Dan Kalman is one of my favorite professors I have ever had at this university. His lectures are very informative and he is very willing to answer any questions about the topics being studied. He also goes to great lengths to keep lectures fun by adding in topical puns and jokes that make the dry material not as boring. 10/10, would recommend.

Before this class I thought I was terrible at math and I was terrified of taking calculus. By taking his class, I realized that I liked math enough to get a minor in it just for fun.

He challenged everyone to grasp challenging concepts, but only tested on basic material. Office hours were flexible and always busy, but were a great help.

Not there to help any students, unwilling to meet for office hours, doesn't seem to care about the students at all. I would stay as far away from this man as you can he really is an arrogant person Has ruined math for me.

I'm straight up awful at math, but Kalman made Calc surprisingly interesting. He uses real world examples, and he gives sooo much partial credit! Be warned though, he does go off on tangents sometimes and has a boatload of awful puns up his sleeve!

Kalman is like the cool grandpa you never had. He is so sweet and he tries to make lectures fun because he understands that most AU students don't like math. He is a pretty easy grader and will always explain everything if you need help. He is so fun and really made me love math and made a lot of concepts make sense.

The best math teacher I've ever had. Very passionate about math, and it's obvious he's been teaching for a long time and knows what he's doing. Open and really nice at office hours, and generally open to questions and comments in class. His lectures are well planned and he's a great guy overall.

I love Prof Kalman! He's so nice and is at this point a seasoned pro. He definitely knows what he's talking about and how to teach math. He's also great at making class fun. He tells lots of fun puns and made this my best math class ever.

One of the best professors I had. He and Ali Enayat convinced me to enter the math department. Puts greater emphasis on mathematical thinking as opposed to memorization, and frames calculus in its historical context. He has a fantastic gift of making bad puns on the fly, and he knows they are bad. If you have the option take him.

AWESOME PROFESSOR! Math 154 isn't a normal math class because it is just strange in general...anyway, Kalman is hilarious and keeps the class laughing as we get through class 3 times a week. He's also a self proclaimed "math offender" and had to register in the neighborhood. Haha take this guy, you won't regret it.

Dreaded math, but he made it worth it. Takes the time to make it very clear and easy, and makes cute jokes and puns. Will give all time necessary to help you, and really breaks everything down to make it easy. I would major in math if he taught all of my classes! Great guy!

Hate math, but I loved this class. Kalman understands that not all people are math majors, and teaches this class especially for them- at a level that everyone can grasp. His jokes might be lame, but they make an otherwise boring class a little bit entertaining. He is a really nice guy and gives attention to any question or concern.

My only complaint about Dr. Kalman is his lectures. They weren't the best lectures I have had in a math class. A bit unorganized. Otherwise, he is a great professor. Willing to help and enjoys teaching.

Prof. Kalman is the best Math professor anyone can get. He can break down the most complicated thing into the simplest terms. He is very helpful and is interested in the students. If you do not understand something he is willing to explain it all over again. He has his jokes, it is lame but in a funny way. He is a really nice person

Professor Kalman is the reason I created a RMP account. He's smart, but can dumb down the material for anyone. Jokes are lame, but you'll laugh. The best part is that he doesn't care if you think he's funny. he knows he is. Three tests, one final. Do the homework, come to class, easy A.

He is a good teacher, helpful and wants everyone to consider a math major. His jokes are lame but he really will go the extra mile to help you and keep you somewhat interested. He knows what hes talking about. Just be wary of the essay or essay-like portions of the tests.

He is very interested in math, but is unclear, and doesn't teach enough to do well on his test. He doesn't understand if you don't understand something. Half the time he doesn't even answer a question that you have. If you can do well in a class where the teacher doesn't teach take his class but if not stay away from anything that he teaches

Dan Kalman is the best professor that I've had in four years at AU. His jokes are awesome in a really lame, dorky kind of way. He's a great teacher and is more than willing to work one-on-one with you if you don't understand something. I had him for an Honors class and there were essay tests which were hard, but valuable for learning theories.

Very difficult class - taught like an honors section. He's an engaging teacher though, with an obvious love for all things math. His lectures can be a bit long-winded on theories and such. Tests are fairly difficult. Taking his class was a grueling struggle in terms of studying but paid off.
