His grasp of the subject matter is beyond compare. He makes a very difficult course enjoyable and fun. I will take any course he teaches. However, I have heard he is a very mediocre fly fisherman.

He's a great guy, and will help you always. It sucks though cause he doesn't do any examples in class really, which isn't a problem until some of the material towards the end. Exams are very fair, if you can do the homework, you're set. Please do NOT wait until the last second to do the hw, as it will take some time. Hilarious guy, too.

Funny and very intelligent, but sometimes condescendingly so. The homework is time consuming and somewhat difficult, but this is college and it's one of the most important subjects for engineers in general, especially structural engineers.

Homework's were lengthy but not to the point where they took all your free time. The first test was hard, but the final was a piece of cake. He really knows what he is talking about too. Great if you really want to learn about analysis. An A can be obtained, but it is really hard!

Dr. Linzell is the hottest professor at Penn State. Although he is a Buckeye fan, I still love his wit, banter, and untiring intellect. I understand that he's a pretty damn good fly fisherman too.

Linzell is a great guy. He will keep you interested during lecture time and is a pretty funny guy. The downside to him though is that his tests aren't the easiest; you really have to work to get a good grade on them. If you are taking 447 later, you might want to prepare yourself by taking his 340 class.

He is tough, but he is fair. His homeworks, especially for 447, are long, but if you know your stuff, the tests arent too bad. 342 is open book tests, and 447 had 1 side of a 8.5x11... final for 447 was a tough one though

Funny, hw is kind of hard (look for solns online), go see him for help, know your stuff for the tests because they usually dont look like your homework. he likes to use old(previous semester) homework problems on the test.
