Comment:
In no exaggeration, easily the most rude and condescending professor I've had at EMU. The entire class is a simulation game with multiple papers, where his criteria was vague then he'd leave very snippy comments on the feedback if you did things wrong.

Simulation-based course. If you have a good group to work with, there should be no problem. However, I was unlucky I did a bulk of the work throughout the semester. Totally felt like a full-time job (no exaggeration). The professor doesn't teach us anything.

The course itself was based on an online simulation. Some of the reports took a long time to complete and you have to work well with those on your team but overall he was not a bad professor.

I liked Professor Merz. What I didn't like is just how heavy your grade depends on group work. I had A's on all individual assignments but had absolutely terrible people in my group that caused me to finish with a B in the class. He's a good professor but can be hard to please.

The great thing about this course is that there are no test. We barely have to meet as a class because our work is online. You just have to focus on making decisions for the simulation, write reports, and participate in discussions. Your teammates will be the deciding factor on how well you do within the class.

Class is simulation based and there are no exams. There is an immense amount of group work for the class including the simulation team work, projects, and writing papers and presentations. It's a lot of work at times but if you follow the guidelines and show up you will do fine. DON'T BUY THE TEXTBOOK - didn't open it once.

Simulation based, group work. You essentially learn how to manipulate software in order to win a marketing video game. Beware of your group even if you think they are great. They might not let you get a word in edge wise (complete domination), then they will mark you down for low participation-even though they are the reason this happened.

Since this is a writing intensive course be prepared to write. You write about 10 case studies and have 2 group projectspresentation. Chose your group wisely because the group work is hard. You only have one test and its in the beginning of the semester. Attendance is part of the participation and you need the book.

Okay, this professor is a bit Old School trying to keep it New School. He is great but, I suggest build a relationship with him as the semester goes on. He is a tough grader and if he learns about you and sees that you and your group mates are trying he will be helpful! Also research the simulation tips online don't waste your time on the handbook!

Merz is a great guy and will help you out if you ask for it. No tests. His class is revolved around a simulation, so make sure you choose a good group the beginning of the semester. The Marketing Insight Reports are rough, but he is a lenient grader. You just have to make sure you have everything that he's looking for in it.

He is a very nice guy, my group was doing bad with out simulation but he helped as much as he could. The class is hard but I think he is a good teacher. Your grade is based on you group and a few papers. Go to class ask questions and you should be fine.

Extremely hard assignments that are not clearly outlined. I know this info inside and out, and the work load is what hurt my grade, I barely had enough time to keep up on all the readings and then completing the assignments.

Extreme amount of writing, research and participation required. Class was very stressful and pushed to absorb a huge amount of material in a short period of time. It is possible to get an A, but it is a ton of work! Professor is extremely knowledgable, however, he is not very clear on what is expected on two papers and presentation.

Prof Merz is a fabulous professor, mktg 475 was not the easiest class, but he makes you actually put what you've learned into action through simulation. Always willing to help a student grasp the concepts, really incredible teacher. i recommend him to all marketing students you will enjoy his class and learn at the same time!

You will learn a lot out of his class. He pushes you to actually think, which is what grad school is all about. You write a lot, but it is well worth it in the end. He is my favorite IMC prof thus far.

There were very few people who liked this course after taking it, but it wasn't because of the prof. Super dry lectures but nice guy. It's almost all group work, no tests, just presentations. He's really bad at reminding students about upcoming due dates so make sure you keep your syllabus. I also stress that attendance is not required, at all.

Great professor. High level of expertise; extremely detailed and helpful in his comments. Lots of reading and research required, and all of it worthwhile. This guy works just as hard as his students. If you really want to learn, don't miss taking classes from him.

Really nice guy, but his class is really demanding. Prepare to do a lot of work. The simulation program he uses is really interesting if you take some time and effort to do it. Make sure you get into a good group, because half of your grade is based on group work.
