I love Dr.Thayer, great professor that cares about his students. However, he only cares about your grade as much as you do. He forces you to take control of your own success not only in his courses, but your entire educational journey. I took 2 courses with him and made an A- and B+. Very well respected professor.

Took his family and marriage class over the summer and he does give a lot of written assignments but they are easy. READ the book, his test come directly from the text. He also requires one to two page essays on his test. Overall I enjoyed the class, just a lot of work and studying.

This class was no joke!! i've never worked so hard for a class in my life!! Dr. Thayer is a very helpful teacher but keep in mind he will not do the work for you!! PLEASE DONT WAIT TILL THE LAST MINUTE TO START ON ANYTHING IN THIS CLASS...U will hate yourself for it!! if your determined and dedicated to this project you will do fine!..I made an A!

I've had Dr. Thayer for 3 subjects and he is very intelligent. He tries hard to instill a good education in us. In order to get everything he has to offer, you have to study and stay on top of it. Overall, I think he is a good professor with good intentions for all.

Dr. Thayer is a very nice man. Respect him and he will respect you. He is very intelligent and does tend to talk above most people's understanding. We were allowed to use a notecard full of notes for just about every test. It was hard, but I never failed a test and I don't know of anyone who did. Ended up with a B.

READ THE BOOK, READ THE NOTES, HECK, GET A MEMBERSHIP IN THE LIBRARY, HE HAS EVERY SOCIOLOGY BOOK KNOWN TO MAN, AND HE DOES USE THEM IN HIS LECTURES. TAKE THOROUGH NOTES, AND NEVER SAY NEVER WITH THIS MAN, HE IS A GODSEND. BRILLIANT, ALTHOUGH CHALLENGING, HE PUSHES YOU TO THINK CRITICALLY, AND THAT IS ONE PROBLEM WE HUMANS HAVE DOING, THINING!

Dr. Thayer is probably the most educated sociology professor at FMU. He's really brilliant and serious about what he does. Yes, you do have to read, but that's college, so get used to it. If you're looking for an A, study, if you're looking for an F, don't study, it's that simple. I recommend him to anyone!

If you are looking to coast by don't take him. Most students are lazy and get upset if they have to read the textbook, grow up people. Just read the book, take notes, and ask for help if you are lost. I have had him 4 times and never gotten less than a A. And he does play favorites!

I'm not really sure how I feel about him. I'm not real fond of how he presents material (powerpoint) but at the same token, he will talk and crack some good lines at times. the part of his tests that were my "saving grace" was the essay. he does a pretty good job of telling you about how the test will be.

Awful teacher, only good point is he is available if you need help, that is if you can comphend what he is saying. Requires you to read text and doesn't really explain what he wants. Don't Take unless you want a C or lower.

He took over the class after Dr. Brunk broke his knees....and to make a long story short, I wished I could put Dr. Brunk knees back 2gether. This man is SERIOUS about Sociology, TOO serious for non-sociology majors. I would never take him voluntarily. I went to his office and didnt get eye contact- thougt office hours were for help, GUESS NOT!
