Was terrified for the first couple weeks of the class. She can be very intimidating, but she's one of the best professors I've had. You need to thoroughly think through your responses and your papers if you want to make a positive impression. She's a great resource for recommendations, especially if you keep up a relationship after the class ends.

Dr. Lyons is a very interesting woman. You'll find her to be a wonderful and helpful if you can get past her slightly intimidating first impression. This class is not a slack-off course; prepare for a paper every 2 weeks and a challenge grading-wise. She challenge me consistently, but I came out a much better writer because of this class!

This is an extremely difficult class. There are much easier 189H options. Big papers due every 2 weeks and at the same time you're working on other big projects. She makes up her mind about what kind of writer you are immediately so you get the same grade on every single paper. Not helpful in office hours. No prompt on papers.

My writing and analytical skills were greatly improved by Dr. Lyons class, but I definitely worked for it! 189H is very fast-paced and Dr. Lyons has extremely high expectations. She is willing to help you, though, as long as you put in the effort. Overall, a challenging and time-consuming but beneficial class.

She is a very helpful professor if you are struggling, but she also has quite a bite. I've seen students try to give a weak argument in discussion (or maybe just an opinion that differs from her own) and be silenced by her glare. She's almost unapproachable. If you're okay with LOTS of essays and a professor who challenges you, sign up!

Her class is relatively easy if you are able to keep up with the required reading and pay attention during discussion. Doctor Lyons is also very willing to help you with any problems that you may experience in her class, and I would highly recommend her to anyone.

Good teacher, gave me comments on the book review i was unsure of, however she left a lot of it up to me and "my learning". Overall she's good but if you do not share her opinion on something, it's wrong.

Dr. Lyons is very intelligent and passionate about what she teaches. She is always there to help and encourages discussion and freethinking. There was a lot of reading and essay-writing, but it wasn't too much to handle. Her TAs are usually her pets, so they are also intelligent and passionate. Take Dr. Lyons if possible!

Very good, nice teacher. She is extremely knowledgable about English and literature. Expecting of her students though...we had to write a lot of papers and read a lot of books. Good class though...interesting lady!
