Comment:

Nigel is extremely knowledgeable about post-colonial studies and isn't afraid to correct you if you say something wrong. That being said, he's very open to making the information more accessible and lets students lead discussions. There's a lot of homework and long readings, but you will learn a lot from Nigel.

Powerful stuff, by far one of the best college classes I've ever taken. Lots of reading, but very worth it --he is lenient and he's not one to fail or give bad grades to folks who don't deserve them.

Lots of extremely interesting and enlightening reading. You gotta submit a response for every class, but it the heavy workload is SO WORTH IT. Great discussion, great professor. Also he is aware of how heavy his workload is so he is flexible and reasonable, 10/10 would take class again!

A year after taking his class, things that i thought were boring when he taught them at 10 am are coming back to me. His class can be hard at times, but he's a genius and i'm happy i took it. And he's also extremely extremely hot, which made it a little difficult to focus sometimes :)

Smart and intelligently humorousl He loves playing with words and meanings, and he'll appreciate the occasional smiles of people who 'get it' :) I loved this class!

He runs the class with high expectations for every student, so expect a fair amount of reading, lectures, and several worksheets and papers. He will open your eyes to a lot of tangible problems in the world--well worth the challenge and content--and he's quite an easy grader in the long run.

my 2nd semester ina row with nigel has been a blast. i love how he uses vastly complicated language and expects you to know what the hell he's talking about. i think he teaches these classes for his own amusement...i.e., he assigns next to no work, and you never have to do his reading to understand what's going on.

I think Nigel was a great guy, and a great teacher. I can't be sure, however, because his impersonal and entirely incompetent (to the point that I registered a complaint w/ the head of the dept) co-teacher Kriss Ravetto walked all over him, belittling him, and explicitly placing blame for her mistakes on him when confronted by students. If you get a chance to take a solo class with him, do it!

Awesome class, really great material (though I still haven't figured out why underage Anime**** was relevant-does he still use that?) Anyway, great class, though I wouldn't recommend buying ALL of the required books, there were like 6 of them.

If you are interested in left-wing politics, take Nigel's class. Go in with an open mind and a willingness to learn and you'll do alright. Coming from a senior,(and an anti-capitalist) he was on of the best teachers I ever had.
