Comment:

A really nice person who obviously cares about what she teaches and what you say during class. But she gets a little too political when it has no reason to be brought up given the material. Is very clearly one-sided in her political ideas and if you disagree with that then you are clearly evil and wrong as a person.

Comment:

She is a very nice person. She will work with you. The reason I would not take this class again is because it was so hard for me to feel invested in the material. Not every history major enjoys studying every part of history. If she taught something other than Latin American history, I would probably take the class.

Comment:

A lot of reading, had three books and textbook reading. She knows a lot of information and really cares about what you have to say. She is kind and really wants you to succeed! She is also very understanding, the essays may be a little challenging but she is willing to give you advice on them!

Comment:

INCREDIBLE PROFESSOR. She is incredibly caring for her students. You can tell she loves her job. She doesn't hesitate to help you, both with class/homework but personal stuff. It's not an easy A, but the work isn't impossible. If you keep up with the readings and lectures, you pass. She even gave us her personal number in case we needed anything.

Dr. Olsen is the most caring teacher I've ever had. She cares for her students more than she cares about her actual work, which grants her deep respect from her classroom. She will work hard to make sure you understand the course.

she gave two take home tests, and one in class essay which you got to use a notecard for. She does not allow technology at all in her class and gets very upset if she sees it. She is super positive and clearly loves what she does!

Trust me do not take this class. Just don't. It is treated like a graduate level class and in a semester where I was taking incredibly hard classes that had to do with my actual major this took up the most amount of my free time. Just don't do it unless you have a lot of time on your hands which I have not. It's useless.

Listen every comment about this woman praises her. She is a sweet lady believe me and you can tell she passionate but she can't teach. The class is already extremely long but she talks without giving you clear notes to follow or slideshow presentations. The lectures she has are hard to follow she bounces all over the place. essay exams though

I don't know where to start. I don't know who told me to take this class, but I regret it. First of all, the class is very long. The first half is her lecturing for an hour and a half with no visuals except some sloppy notes on the board. She can go off-topic and it's difficult to take notes. There are only tests (all essays). DO NOT TAKE THIS CLAS

Dr. Olsen knows alot about Latin American History but grades the course like an upper level history class. (only a 100 level) Even after asking how I can better my essay and fixing my mistakes, I was graded worse than before. There are only 4 grades assignments, so its makes it hard to come back from. Would recommend for primarily history majors.

Professor Olsen is such a caring lady. She asks you as a class how you want your tests (take home, essay, etc.) and if you take them during class she will help you if you get stumped on a question. She cares more about you understanding a topic than every little detail - and tests this way as well. We watch a lot of documentaries so be prepared!

She's the best professor I've ever had, she knows everything about Latin America and is the most caring professor, not your average history class the course has a human rights focus big picture not just dates and names. I would strongly recommend taking her if you get a chance you wont regret it. tests are pretty easy gives questions out week ahead

Look she teaches Latin American History so if you dont know a lot about the region you have to read. But the books are SO GOOD. 307 this semester was about Narcos Trafficing (not even a lie) shes so compassionate. Also let me do an independent study with her about asylum because shes a case worker. So interesting and knowledgeable TAKE HER.

I absolutely loved Patrice Olsen!! Her class is mainly 4 papers so if you do not like to write papers I would not suggest this class. The lectures can be boring sometimes but she is such a nice lady and is willing to help you on anything. 10/10 would recommend

This lady was the nicest professor I have had yet. She cares so much and is so understanding. She will do anything to help a student and if you do poorly on one of the three tests she will let you redo it. Tests are essays and she gives the prompt ahead of time. Boring class and I skipped a lot but she is so sweet and passionate you will be fine.

Such a nice and passionate lady! We voted on the layouts of our exams and had review classes before. She made history interesting and catered the class to what we wanted to learn. It was always clear that she would be there for us for whatever we needed. Lots of reading but it's not necessary, just an extra.

Dr. Olsen is a very approachable and knowledgable professor, but her class is very different. She doesn't have any powerpoints or visual aids, so it's hard to follow along. She expects you to read 3 books outside of class... but you can weasel your way around it if you play your cards right. Graded on only 3 tests and an assignment.

Olsen knows. her. stuff. She has so much knowledge in the material and is so so so willing to meet with students outside of class and help with the material. I am not a history person and she made it such a fun class. Class is graded from 3 exams and a project. If you have to take this class, TAKE HER.
