I graduated last year. I took data structures and programming with him. It was not easy but he can explain well. I now got my first job, and it may be because of the recursion that he taught us.

The class is pretty easy as long as you follow his lectures. The things you learn in this class are extremely practical and is a must for all CS majors in my opinion. The class will consist of a large scale software project, NO CODING THOUGH :( , 2 large essays (20 pages), 2 exams, and a presentation. (GROUP EFFORT, so chose group members wisely)

He has a strange accent and sometimes weird teaching methods. He sometime explains programs by playing games. For example the way he explained linked-list was informative. No fluff here. Definatly recommend.

The course prepares you for real work. There are couple written projects with a team. All very educational. The stuff is hard but he makes it easy. I wish there were more courses like this.

I like his teaching style. When prof asks a question he gives a chance to everyone to answer. We had a student in the back who was always wanting to be heard and was actin up because he had to share the class with other students. There is sometimes one in each class, Silverman teaches all students fairly.

I took 2700 with Silverman in Fall. You need to study and program-it can be hard for a lo wer student. He explains everything carefully and answers patiently EVERY question. I wish I knew 10% what he knows. We asked about jumps many times and the prof explained it over-n-over and nobody was heckled. Always willing to answer questions.

Dr. Silverman explained what different adts do and how to write them. The course is not easy but if you follow his lecture and go to his office with questions you can get an A. He uses tablet which is better. Dr. Silverman is great and sometimes funny teacher.

Office very far from the classroom makes it hard to visit his office after class. Although the book is good, his lecture notes are even better. My favorite professor this semester.

The course is practical oriented. The first exam was pretty clear. I messed up one question but still got an A. We get homework graded quickly, but the PAR are taking longer to grade, which does not surprise me because it was a long report. I am glad I took the course, can't get this in any other course.

We had our first midterm exam and it was not tough at all not easy but definitely not tough. Everything was discussed previously in the lecture. Like the prof. said before, if you do the homework, and read his lectures, you can do well in the course.

He started with a review which was good for me cos I forgot how to do array. He is going very slow to make sure that everyone is following. We had one assignment which was not hard at all. I give the course 2/5 on hard. If you ask question he will repeat the stuff until you get it. He explains really well.

I like this class and the binary code was just the coolest. The class is amazing and the professor seems to know everything we ask about. Between the lectures and the book everything is clear so far. Prof answers questions very well.

I had him in Java and he was very educational. He knows Java inside out. In CRYPTO first hw he extended project deadline for one week for the whole class so everyone can keep up. If you keep up with hw and read his lectures you should have no problem. He can be funny. He likes students asking questions.

Dr. Silverman was teaching binary numbers in his part of the course and how to compute in binary the way computer does. He gave one exam, pretty streight forward. He answers all questions in email or in class. Posts teaching notes. You can ask anything that you have a doubt about.

Prof taught binary codes and arithmetic. He teaches even about jail numbers! Before he left he talked about student computer 123. He designed it. I downloaded it and wrote some programs. It was really cool how it works, instructions pc.. His exam was like home assignment. If you do homework and read the book, you will learn a lot - I did.

After you get past his funny accent, he is a careful teacher. We learned about encryption starting with easy ceasar and he got to enigma. He has some interesting stories on encryption from history. he asks if we have questions and walks through the class to see if somebody has question. Home work is nontrivial but very interesting. fun teach/course

Lessons are well organized but you have to pay attention. He taught half of 3740 and his experience shows. read the book and notes and get a good grade. He teaches what makes computer work like adders, subtracters, RAM. Fun labs we made a working adder from gates. Grades okay.

It's CS 1500, the beginning programming class. It really does not matter who you take. His powerpoints in class are hard to read, but really the class isn't that hard.
