With covid it's been harder but he doesn't tell you what he wants sentence by sentence anymore. He did tell us for the final paper which was nice but besides that he never told you his expectations or what he wanted. He was nice in lecture but goes on tangents often.

Professor Loeb offers you directionless assignments with purely subjective feedback. It seems like no matter how i fix and adjust myself for the course, he finds his way to marking my papers off 25-30% despite accounting for errors I've made in past assignments. DO NOT take his class unless you live and breathe crappy musicals. Even then, beware.

Dr. Loeb is strictly teaches for auditory learners; he does not write on the board or use slides. His lectures can be interesting, but your primary tool to pass the class is the textbook. 5 "quizzes" that are really exams (50-60 questions each with a short answer) make up a majority of the class work, but they are all curved and the lowest dropped.

Doesn't go off of syllabus. Goes on tangents in class and randomly bursts into song. His method of grading papers is extremely subjective. He's VERY picky. Seems like a decent guy, but attending class is a waste of time. Attendance brownie points. Pop quizzes are poorly timed (read: during midterms) and are short answer. I wanted to like him :/

Attending class is a waste of time. Doesn't go off set plans for syllabus. Lectures are extremely boring and he shows videos a lot in class. If you don't write papers exactly how he wants it, he will give you a bad grade. I was given poor grades on both my papers for being "too detailed". Gives quizzes that are basically tests and hard.

Prof. Loeb expects a lot out of his students. He grades tough on his papers, but he literally break down SENTENCE PER SENTENCE how he wants his papers written, so if you just follow his templates you will be fine. His exams are not too bad if you actually read the text. He's extremely helpful. He appreciates effort and will work with you if you try

Horrible class! Lectures were pointless and he gave us homework assignments that had nothing to do with interning. Has no actual grading scale and does not explain why he gave you a grade. I went to every lecture, participate in class, got an A on my site evaluation but still got a B in the class. If your doing an internship dont do it with him!!

He's a really nice guy but he needs to utilize canvas and use a normal grading scale . I don't know where I stand just off checks and pluses/minuses. The assignments are long , boring & not real useful . Circle time was pretty boring at times but doable .

I don't understand why Loeb is rated so low. Lectures were boring and the class was kind of strange. But it was an easy A if you follow instructions. I wrote two papers for the course and received A's on both by following exactly what he said. Same for the weekly homework. Overall, go to class and follow the instructions.

Try doing everything he says and then ACTUALLY doing it to only fail. His grading doesn't even make sense he doesn't even go over exam material or Anything. U wanna pay $$$ for a class and teach yourself take some one else DONT TAKE HIM he failed all of my papers and I always get A's on papers! Seriously he needs to retire wow

First of all, make sure you read the text!! He pulls test questions from both the books and his in class lectures (which are generally weeks behind the current assigned chapters being tested) .Tests are ridiculous-it should tell you something about your testing if on a 40 question test, the student average is 24. Thank God that he curves!

I'm willing to bet that those who rated Dr. Loeb so low are the same students who skip class andor leave early a lot. He tells you on day 1 that attendance is MANDATORY, yet a ton of students skip anyways. Homework isn't bad and class exercises can be awkward, but helpful (especially by getting you out of your comfort zone.) He's also very caring.

Grading is ambiguous "theoretical" checks/+/-. Wonderful to talk to. Awful to endure as a prof. Your grade is NOT determined by your intern evaluation but by how you do during circle time. I also was offered a job at my site. This is overlooked in favor of papers and book work graded in checks that do not apply to my placement. Mandatory attendance

He is the worst proff I've ever had. He is boring and arrogant. I did 160 hrs at my internship, got a glowing review AND a job offer on top of it, but that only counted for a 3rd of my grade. Most of your grade are the stupid homework assignments and unless you do it his way, its wrong. Very disappointed in this class and the proff DO NOT TAKE HIM!

I definitely agree with the comment prior to mine. The class consisted of circle time, role playing, and videos. I didn't get much out of these activities. There are weekly homework assignments which I learned a little from, but they were confusing sometimes and he NEVER discussed them with us. Loved my internship but not the class.

His internship seminar is absolutley worthless. The entire 2 hours are spent role-playing and sitting in a circle with the class. He never discussed any of the assignments and is ambiguous when it comes to grading. This class made my internship less enjoyable and I felt as if I was being judged based on my attendence rather than on my work.

Dr. Loeb is a good guy but grades very harshly. He definitely did clarify what he wanted, including going over EXACTLY how to write each paper! The biggest negative I have is, if you are in a class with any of his Honors students, don't count on being recognized too much! They are the prized pupils! If you can get past that, this class is ok.

The grading structure for this class is ambiguous. He uses checks and + signs & pts on the papers but doesn't tells you until the last day of class what the pts equate to grade wise. He does not tell you what you've done wrong or need to improve on. You have no idea what grade u r getting till the end. Disappointing & hard to get ahold of.

Agree w/every other negative comment I have seen. Hands down worst professor ever encountered. I'm basically a 4.0 student & hardly ever get below an A on a writing assignment. This guy failed everything I wrote, which he WILL do if he doesn't like you - no explanation or justification. AVOID HIM! Take SOC Intern. instead & anyone but him 4 others.
