Comment:

I took Psychology of Sleep and Dreaming. It was a difficult class, but Dr. A was there to help every step of the way. She is encouraging, understanding, and incredibly intelligent. I had some personal issues this semester and did not receive the grade I had hoped for. However, should this class be offered with Dr. A, I would take it again.

Comment:

Dr. Atchley went off on tangents regularly & was not very helpful any of the times I spoke with her. She made participation an integral part of a research methods course, which felt unnecessary with the amount of time we spent covering material that had nothing to do with our class.

Comment:

Professor Atchley is very intelligent and truly cares about her students. She is a great lecturer and explains concepts through examples of research either her or her husband has done. She gives a lot of homework! But she basically grades on completion (unless you royally screw up the assignment). Tests were reasonably difficult. Overall very good!

Comment:

She's way too smart for her own good, and especially for yours. She goes off on many tangents in the short time you have in class. She is a good teacher and knows a lot about the field, but isn't good at intro level course teaching. Switch teachers if you can. Her grading is also stupid, if you miss 2 points you could be at an 86% for that section.

Comment:

One of my favorite classes at KU so far. Dr. Atchley is a great teacher, especially for only meeting once a week. That being said, this class is quite a bit of work. We always did very helpful and engaging class activities. The exams are easy if you read the book, study vocab, and participate in class. Reading the book is 100% necessary.

I know intro level psych classes aren't supposed to be anything special, but I wasn't especially fond of this one... Dr. Atchley isn't a bad teacher but I don't think she should teach lecture classes. She tried valiantly to do a lot of class participation but it was awkward and not very helpful in the end. She takes attendance and hw is CRUCIAL.

She was probably the worst teacher I have ever had. She assigned homework due on a Saturday at midnight. She is full of herself, and treats her students like they're children, especially when giving instructions. I would fully recommend finding another professor if you are required to take this class.

Nice teacher! I took her general psychology class. She pushed everyone to study by themselves. I learned something which may benefit me lifetime. BUT, this class absolutely not an easy A. She took attendance EVERY time. Her exams are difficult but have some curves. Need to study 3-5 hours beyond the classroom weekly. Recommended!!!

Awful teacher! Annoying, full of herself, ignorant to technological advances (including how to enter grades into a grade book, doesn't answer phone/emails, etc.) requires about 5 hrs on average of outside online homework each week. Writes unfair tests

Really cool class if you like learning about the brain and how different types of brain damage affect behavior. If not, then you won't like this class. Lectures are entertaining. Tests really hard, STUDY A LOT. GO TO CLASS.A ton of material is covered and needs to be memorized. The typical filled out study guide won't do; flashcards etc. are a must

Took Brain and Behavior from her and HATED THIS CLASS! The lectures were boring and waaaay too much specific information she expected you to memorize. I studied an enormous amount for her exams and still got a C. Pretty much impossible tests because they ask you so many specifics you can't remember them all. Also very arrogant.

i could not stand this woman. she's not a bad teacher, but certainly not the most interesting, and in definite need of a good dose of humility. she makes it seem like she is such a big shot brain researcher, and obviously i am not impressed.

She has a good sense of humor, which makes her class tolerable which is saying a lot. The class by its subject matter is pretty dry, but it is somewhat interesting. Easy to get credit for journals, but activity days are annoying. Tests are hard, but if you do the study guide the tests are easy.

I will not take one of her classes ever again. Extremely arrogant (seems to be in the family), and incapable of admitting to mistakes. I learned nothing in the class. Tests are open book, open notes, but the tests do not always refer to your notes. Very poor writing abilities and grades entirely too hard on your writings.
