Dr. Spencer is hilarious and a genius! She really knows her stuff and pushes her students to know their stuff as well. Her lectures can feel a little all over the place but take good notes and do your reading and she will work with you to make a good grade and learn a lot! I did not like British Literature until I had her. She's so passionate!

She is an expert in World Literature. She knows EVERYTHING. She may be intimidating on the surface, but once you make efforts to consult and know her more, she is a very hospitable and understanding professor. The tests are hard, but tie things well together. It's my hardest yet most interesting English class.

Excellent professor. I learned so much in this class! Though the journals are a lot of work, they really help you understand the material and are extremely helpful in studying for tests.

Dr. Spencer is so knowledgeable, intelligent, and really inspirational. Her world lit class, as her other classes, is challenging and yet fun. I learned a lot from her, and am still wishing that I could learn more from her. I decided to take her second world lit, and it changed many things in a very good way. Most recommended!

Dr. Spencer LOVES the subjects she teaches and that is the ONLY thing that made class bearable. It's mostly a lecture class and the tests are extremely hard. We had homework due every week and there was a ton of reading involved. She also does not tolerate phones, so...

I have never read more in an English class in my life. However, the reading is necessary, as it is World Lit I. She grades journals (9 different sets, each 1 page long) on a 1-3 scale. 1 being the least 3 being the best. Though it's not impossible to get a 3, they are uncommon. Overall, I liked her class and would take her again.

I changed my major the first week of school so i did not get to her class until the 2nd week. She told me even though i was not enrolled in her class, if i missed ONE class she would deduct my final grade 20 points. She was quite rude about it too. I would not suggest.

Dr. Spencer is one of the best teachers at UCO. She takes an active interest in every one of her students. Her classes are structured around their welfare: her assignments are interesting, her lectures insightful and chock full of fascinating additional information--she loves her job. Keep up with the readings and her class is wonderful.

Those uninterested in her classes are likely over at UCO taking Zombie classes or Hoch. (where everyone makes an A!) You have to READ in this Engl.class, & you also have to WRITE a lot. Surprise?!I took her 18th century lit., learned substantial info & loved the readings even while expecting not to!She has a photographic mind, & she loves teaching.

Dr. Spencer expects a lot of her students, but gives a lot in return. She's helpful--her lectures and the journals (though tedious) really helped me understand the material. She goes out of her way to make sure she is understood by her students. Don't slack off--you're in college!--and you will do just fine and come out smarter than you were.

Awesome! I absolutely loved her! As long as you do the journals and read what you're supposed to, you'll do fine. She tends to be a bit opinionated, but is flexible and willing to see your side in an argument (as a couple comments on my journals showed). Great teacher, definitely recommend!

Comment:
Busy work. Everywhere. The journals are tedious and the questions don't shed any light on the material. Very little engagement on the professor's part, vague as can be, very inflexible, even if emergencies come up, and rude. Love the subject, but she is a terrible teacher. She might be the plague. 1ST English class I have ever regretted taking.

The block class is horrible! With endless nights of reading! However she is so great at describing everything that I almost never read out of the textbook and still made it out with an A. Just show up to class everyday and you will do fine. She also changed the final to a Thursday so you have more time.

Dr. Spencer is very intelligent and she helps students understand the literature if they don't get it. Her tests are definitely hard due to the time crunch (only 50 min). Her classes are very valuable and interesting. Seems like her World Lit class is much easier than her English since 1800.

Dr. Spencer is the hardest English professors I have had, and I consider myself to be a pretty good student. She will grade your journals and papers based off her personal opinion. Her test are extremely difficult and you are only allowed 50min which is not enough time. She treats class as a graduate level course, and goes over class time often

She is very eccentric, and definitely an expert. She expects you to speak up in class, or she will call you out. A few homework assignments, a midterm and a final, and one research paper that is pointless. She seems like a hard grader but if you follow the guidelines without exceeding you will end up with a good grade.

Dr. Spencer is definitely an expert in her field. She knows a lot about her material and is willing to share her knowledge and insights. Be prepared to write a journal entry over EVERY reading assignment, which can turn into a tedious chore. Also, be prepared for essay exams in which you won't have enough time to answer everything.
