Comment:
Bill is an incredibly caring man and I love him class. He is soft spoken, but he provides great insight, especially about the Republican party. He is not pretentious in the least, and is extremely approachable. I really respect him, and would absolutely recommend him as a prof.

Comment:
Professor Klein is garrulous and enjoys lecturing, which can definitely detract from the pace of the class, but his readings are adequately fulfilling. His calm, relaxed demeanour is contagious. As long as you have concrete examples in your essays, you will do well. Open-book final.

Comment:
Professor Klein is absolutely brilliant. He can be a bit soft spoken at times, but if you want a passionate and insightful discussion on philosophy, I'd highly recommend. He's very personable and loves to here his student's thoughts. For the essays, you have a lot of room to develop your own ideas, so long as you back them up with evidence.

Comment:
I'm not sure who professor Klein thinks he's talking to sometimes, as he spends the entire period mumbling to himself while the rest of the class zones out. The papers have 0 grading criteria (he won't provide any even if you ask him) and the subjects are unclear. He's a super nice guy but I just could not get myself to take his class again.

Comment:
Two papers (one of which is counted as the final) and an open-book midterm. Pretty easy to get a good grade with minimal effort, but don't expect lectures to be too interesting; in fact, they are REALLY boring and are oftentimes one-sided.

Comment:
Professor Klein is the absolute worst professor at NYU. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Find someone else. The entirety of his class is spent with him mumbling to himself in the corner of the room. None of his points are cohesive or make any sense. He is unclear in his direction or grading when it comes to papers. He is HORRIBLE.

Currently sitting in his class and I can't help but think about how much of a waste of money this course is. Every class consists of the fallowing: Him mumbling to himself, him looking for a book, or him bashing republicans. He is definitely a very smart person but lacks any ability to teach, command a room, or hold an academic conversation.

If you want to learn something in SF, take Professor Klein. He's knowledgable and passionate about the material, and if you read even a bit you'll learn a ton more in class (plus he loves participation). Lots of freedom on papers, he'll like basically any well-defended idea. Treats his students like adults, personally and intellectually.

Bill is great, okay? And if you're taking SF because you have to and you just wanna get through it, take him. Almost all his readings are on sparknotes and he spends most of the class mumbling to himself. He's also half deaf so you can talk and text and whatever he won't notice. Do NOT take if you enjoy the subject, he's boring and unclear

I have loved Klein so much all throughout. Even though a lot of people sleep during the class because he mumbels to himself but the class has never been boring! He has an amazing sense of humor and this class is a super easy A. He cares about his students a lot. I am taking him in SFII again

Great professor. Loved his class the most during the entire academic school year (SFI and SFII). Really enjoyed the points he made during lectures and during office hours. Very helpful and patient during office hours -- passionate and knowledgable professor. Would definitely take again.

You have to have a sense of humor to understand Klein. For someone who became an atheist at the age of 6, he's incredibly ironic and a pleasure to have as a teacher. I enjoyed his lectures because I did the hw and even if I didn't participate much, he knew me by name. He's the most endearing teacher I've had and I would take his class again.

Comment:
Professor Klein is very confusing and often hard to follow. He is undoubtedly an intelligent man, but this is not evident in his classes. He is long-winded and rarely talks about the topic at hand. His expectations are not clear, and he is more interested in proving that students did or didn't do their work then he is in teaching.

Horrible. I hated it so much. Does not talk about the text but just mumbles what is on his mind and his impressions of the world. Truly horrible! Sends sarcastic emails

Nice guy but terrible prof. Mumbles through lectures, never can form a complete sentence. Will admit that he didn't read the text before coming to class. Doesn't make sense when posing questions and writes really convoluted essay topics. Nobody pays attention is class, didn't learn anything.

currently finishing my semester with him. I've had to write two 6-page papers take one in-class test, and the nextlast test we have is yet another 6-page take-home paper. His class is easy; contribute once in a while, use sparknotes, do the papers, make outlines for the test(s) and you're good to go. Don't need to pay attention in class to do well

Hands down the hardest class to motivate yourself to go to. Consists of 1 hour and 15 minutes of mumbling and vague essay topics. Not worth taking unless you absolutely LOVE SF and have already read most of the books on the syllabus on your own. He will cover these books in very minute detail and often times talk about his opinions and not the book

Talks to himself throughout the whole class. Take him if you plan on getting nothing out of the thousands of dollars spent on a 4-credit-class.
