A prof that cares about his students. He challenges you to think about literature through unique lenses, so if you're a perceptive kind of writer, this course will be enjoyable. Improves your critical thinking more so than actual writing grammar and structure. He won't grade lightly, but if you work for it, the results will be gratifying.

I don't typically enjoy English, but this was a great class. Adam Frank has great class discussions that are interesting, engaging, and insightful. I learned a lot from his class and feel that my writing really improved. He's a fair grader, motivating, and willing to help his students succeed. 100% recommend taking his class.

Comment:
The class was sort of boring, but I wasn't expecting it to be otherwise since it's English 100. Dr. Frank had an interesting tendency of shutting down anyone with an idea that wasn't his, which made everyone in the class pretty reluctant to engage. I didn't find him to be very pleasant to listen to, either.

Adam Frank is a sweetheart -- slightly awkward, goofy, thoughtful and listens to everyone. Makes you laugh and transformed a course as boring as Affect Theory into something delightful and worth the credit. All those who are in ENGL should take him at least once, he is the most approachable and chill proff I've come across. Good grader too!

AMAZING PROF! Best course I've taken at UBC, and would easily take more with him. The material is insightful but challenging, but he's very helpful if you approach him with your concerns. Lectures were a breath of fresh air, and I'm genuinely sad they're over. He's witty, hilarious, engaging and a GENIUS. I was 100% inspired from start to finish.

I loved it. We read many fascinating novels and the reference textbook was helpful. We did many short writing assignments and one final paper. It was a class of 30 students so Prof Frank learned all of our names and it was a discussion oriented class. He is a fair marker and gives great feedback. This class helped me overcome my essay anxiety.

Looking through my notes now before the final, I realize that nothing he taught us made sense. This course had the potential to be very interesting but got muddled by the way he used very confusing and abstract concepts. As well, really outdated course material for such a contemporary course.

If you read the material, give some time to think, and approach him to talk about it, you will gain a great insight, guaranteed. He does a great job in explaining some of more abstract concepts/arguments to first-year language.

Taking this class reminded me why I love english literature. completely cemented by continuance in the program. His classes are abtract, but if you read and participate you will end up with a profound understanding of the topic that other profs. simply cannot provide.

With Adam Frank, it is as though his words simultaneously massage the spirit and the brain. I belive in Zen and the Art of stuff, and this course made me feel at one with the professor, the other students, and the material and my mundane self was then but a concept floating in the breeze. I believe in Adam Frank.

Yeesh. I am quite surprised by the first few comments I read. I did not find Dr. Frank open-minded, engaging, interesting, or helpful. I found him pretentious.

Okay, I find the comment below me extremely disturbing. But anyway! Adam Frank is an intelligent and enthusiastic teacher, who encourages lots of class participation! At first, I didn't like him and I thought his lectures were highly unorganized, but he grew on me and as time went on, everything he says in class started to make more and more sense!
