I actually thought she was great. Her lectures are very good, she teaches the material well. She does do pop quizzes to assure you're doing the reading assignments so just do the assignments; they help understand the lecture. We did two speeches and they weren't painful topic; she does tell you what she expects with them. Just ask her questions.

She expects a lot of us on our speeches even though I took an intro level communications class for a gen ed credit. I think she would be a better high school teacher. I don't like her that much.

Dr. Brickner was a great professor who makes sure that her students understand the material. When I took SCOM with her, the grades in the class were exams, speeches, and pop quizzes. If you're taking the class, you definitely HAVE to read or at least pay a lot of attention in class when she goes over the chapter. Overall, good professor.

Honestly, I didnt think she was the WORST teacher. She tries to scare you at the beginning but if you do the readings and pay attention the class isnt too bad. However, sometimes the quizzes and exams were harder than i thought they should be. Brickner knows her stuff, but sometimes she expects too much. But, it definitely could be worse.

Dear undergrads, quit your complaining. Amiee is an absolutely fantastic professor. She was incredibly accessible, passionate, and invested in all of us as students. She may make you do more work than you want but she cares about your learning and genuinely wants her students to do well. I would absolutely take her again for any class.

Aimee is such a wonderful professor. She is passionate about her work and demonstrates exceptional skills in counseling. She gives great feedback and is accessible inside and out of class. Like any graduate program, this course is challenging but she makes it doable.

Professor Brickner is nice but makes it way to much work for a gen ed. Theres two speeches and three tests including the final. I did well on the final and second test, and got high As on both my speeches but still ended with an B. She makes you do an outline for your speeches but doesn't even make it worth any points. She's okay other than that.

TAKE SOMEONE ELSE FOR SCOM!!! she is not a very nice person, I find her to be condescending to students. Tough grader on the speeches yet didn't give up much direction. gave 2 speeches, an exam and a final ALL AFTER spring break- not good planning. We will come to class and she will show a 30 min. video that has no vale to the class- stay away!!!!!

Tests are worded weird, but this is a general SCOM thing. TAKE NOTES FROM READINGS (can be used on pop quiz). Easy to get As on speeches bc she makes it known what she is looking for. If you try, she'll try her best to help your GPA. (She gave me an A- when it wasn't on the syllabus so I wouldn't have a B+). There isn't much material to cover.

If you have the opportunity, take the group presentation scom class and another professor. She grades your mrest practice tests but not a typed outline required for a speech and is very difficult when it comes to grading speeches. Pop quizzes are given after the assigned chapter readings. Does not put in any grades until very late in the semester.

A lot of people don't like her but I found her to be a great professor, she was so helpful and she really understands how to do research and broke a 15 page paper into manageable parts. She is also kind of funny and she is always there to help you and provides good feedback. Other 280 teachers suck, so if she's teaching it, take Brickner.

Brickner is such a ray of sunshine, which at first was not appreciated due to the fact that I had her for an 8am. Yet I never had a problem staying awake because she loves teaching and is so bubbly. Her lectures are easy to follow, but I recommend having a chapter outline before class starts (you can use them on quizzes). Take her for GCOM!

Comment:

The class is not hard if you are willing to put in the effort. The tests are straight from the textbook and it's not that hard to get at least a BB+ on the two speeches. She also gives 6 pop quizzes (drops the lowest grade) and you can use your notes for them so as long as you read the chapters on time you'll be fine.
