2 in class midterms and one final. There are three short writing assignments. Test material all relates to lectures and readings. I did not do all the readings but attended almost every lecture and got an A. Course offers a good selection of sociology related movies. Interesting lectures. I would take again.

Akos is passionate about the films and our ideas - but ultimately he has joined the dots with the sociology and the films we are watching, and classes could get boring when not talking about the films. I thought he was kind, approachable and a generous marker. A good easy(ish) and enjoyable sociology option. I'll remember him more than the course.

Professor Rona Tas gets to know you personally if you go to his office hours for help! He was very caring and helped me a lot on the computer projects. If you need a research class for Sociology major req, def take this course!

This class is definitely sociology, not film. The films are there to illustrate the concepts, not to be analyzed on their own. Pretty easy class, fun & interesting prof. Three exams, all short answer (not essay). The questions are grouped based on lectures, films, & readings. If you pay attention it's very easy.

Amazing Professor! I took the class over summer, meaning there were only roughly 10 people in it. His accent is super awesome, and although I agree that sometimes he makes things sound a bit more complicated than they actually are, he makes sure that everyone understands the concepts he is explaining. I definitely recommend him!

I would not recommend this Professor at all. Useless, grouchy, and unclear. I tried to make the most of this class but it was terrible. I have taken 3 of his class and I do not recommended him at all. Also, if you have a family emergency he requires actual paperwork and didn't believe my grandma had actually passed away with a certificate.

Useless class. I guess that when you take a leisure topic, such as movies, and try to make it into an academic course you end up with a wreck of nonsense that only sociologists think is important. The professor is good, but this class is time consuming cuz there is 1000's of long readings!

Book sucks; many sociologist have an intelligence complex, so they take simple concepts and explain them in difficult ways to sound smart, so the text won't help. The material is poorly explained b/c he has to move fast. Harder than calculus by far. Midterm crazy hard even with "crib sheet". I hate this class, and you will too.

very enterining and easy! as long as you show up, the material engrains itself in you. all texts are avable on line and the material is super familiar and easy. even though this clasasn't a huge challange, i ejoyed it the most!!

Professor Rona-Tas does the best he can at teaching this boring subject. Take it over summer. The midterm and final were kinda hard so attending every lecture will help. The information can be overwhelming, but if you have a good TA that should help. His tests are based on the book, lectures, and the CD that comes with the book.

Very good professor. Akos has a charming accent and is easy to understand. Very articulated and extremely intelligent. The subject is extremely boring though. Midterm was difficult and there are 3 assignments. make sure you do the CD exercices. Some of the midterm questions are straight from the CD exercices. I would take his classes again!

Difficult boring class. Professor does give good examples. Make sure you go to class and get a good TA. If unsure go to TA's office hours for clarification. Book was useful, but also boring. Important to learn material for future classes, since it will apply.

Lectures are very organized. The hungarian accent isnt that bad bc he speaks slowly and he uses examples to explain things. Midterm & Final are questions lifted from the cdrom quizzes & assignments are found online so you can plan ahead. I recommend taking this class in summer because the boring material is condensed into shorter weeks.

his hungarian accent is distracting, on top of the fact that his lectures are really boring. i suppose it has a lot to do with the boring subject matter, but he isn't very good at teaching either. his examples are not clear, assignments take up a lot of time, and his midterm and final are difficult. not an easy class. his face annoyed me.
