Comment:

The textbooks were all at least 10 years old. This made for cheap books, but poor education. At least you get lots of practice writing because of chapter summaries for each chapter of every book. Blanchard is a nice guy, but not a great professor. He lets students teach for him, providing no feedback or help in the discussions.

Comment:

Unfortunately, Blanchard does not teach. His classes require your attendance, but the time is wasted when you are there. There is a lot of homework, but the bulk of it is busy work to distract from his lack of guidance. There are lots of out-of-class assignments, but none of them are in the syllabus. I found this professor to be totally unprepared.

I had to take this class for my language arts minor. I really don't like how he makes us do things outside of class and doesn't put it on the syllabus to prepare us. He is at times arrogant, and I wish he would give us more feedback on our work. He's a nice guy and has good intentions, but a terrible prof.

Professor Blanchard is a nice guy in general, but as a professor, I'm not his biggest fan. He's a poor communicator, and offsets his quiet demeanor with a frustrating standoffishness and a touch of arrogance. I will grant, though, that he does seem to know plenty about journalism.

Very convincing and helpful first few years, but if a student disagrees with him, he either doesn't care or takes it up with an authority before confronting student. He's knowledgeable but moody; helpful yet hypocritical. But don't worry, if you're a journalism student, odds are this Journalism Director will have someone else teach you.

Blanchard was probably the biggest joke of a prof that i've had in all 4 years here. Blanchard first of all comes off as uninterested, and Secondly he has no concept of compromising. It's his way or the high way with the Herald, and thats why the school newspaper is so boring.

I am a senior English student and have had Blanchard several times. I could have talked with him for ten minutes and gotten the same benefit. Do not waste your time and tuition dollars on Blanchard's classes. If at all paossible, take Egner instead. He is more experienced and more helpful.
