Overall terrible lecture. Reads straight from the book. Only grades based on test scores and one case study which is assigned two weeks before final. Constantly talking about personal life. No study guides, no proper test prep. Basically teach yourself the entire course to pass.

In this class you will learn to do all the problems by hand, so no computer problems. You need to read chapters and take notes from the chapters to do well. All the info is in the book, professor doesn't make up anything that wasn't in the book. If you aren't someone who is willing to put time, don't take him.

Poorest professor !!! the class and lectures are useless (he just read the textbook in class and more likely English words exploration class rather than an accounting class.) His handwriting is terrible (No PPT, always the terrible handwriting.) Attendance is mandatory. Don't escape during the break, he will count students after the break.

all the negative comments here are true. He's a good guy, but needs to reign in the irrelevant information given in his class. The tests are brutal, it is obviously from the content of the course, but the set up and style are new. highly recommend taking with another professor.

He's a really nice guy and a good professor and not really a tough grader. He's a walking calculator and dictionary and will take his time to explain materials to you if you go to his office hours. Requires reading the book and Took his class once and planning on taking him again next year.

I totally changed my schedule to avoid having him again. If you are in his tax class this semester (Fall 2016) and are looking for another option try Curry College. They have a hybrid tax class on Thursday evenings that starts the end of October & is for 8 weeks. Umass approved my request to take it there

Worst professor I ever had. I was forced to take him since he was the only one available for the summer. Completely destroyed my GPA(3.74 before). His tests are impossible and nothing like the homework problems. He wastes so much class time with useless stories and explaining word roots. Also hates when you miss a class. AVOID!!!

I'll be honest and say I was only there for one class and that was enough for me. Discusses a lot of nonsensical facts, useless latin meaning of words, and using analogies not all students can comprehend. His "review" made no sense, I was even more lost coming out of the class. Do not take him!

We skipped 3-4 chapters because of his poor time management. Wasted time in class talking about Latin meaning of words, and him humble bragging about how smart he is with non-accounting trivia questions. Put material on test that we never discussed in class. Would never take a class with him again and recommend you do the same. GPA was 3.8 before..

He expects you to be ready with homework in each class. If you don't do homework, he gives lecture to you. Exams are horrible. He asks you to focus on one section and gives questions from another. The tests are very confusing and hard. Attendance is mandatory. The only thing I didn't like was the way he framed Exams. Those were the hardest exams

I didn't like this professor at all. He cares about NOT important things, for example he wants a calculator and the book on your desk. He ask about random word that has nothing to do with Accounting. He tries hard to be funny, talks about movies. This professor waste a lot of time explaining the origin of words, that doesn't appear in the exam.

Took him for auditing and federal taxation.. his pros are: he is kind, understanding, smart, and funny. (sadly this has nothing to do with teaching) He is good at explaining Cons:uses chalkboard, writes random words on board as notes and they're unhelpful, exams have surprise problems not gone over in class and he is very vague about what's on it.

He is the worst teacher, and he cannot teach you anything (just tell you read the book). We do not know how to fill in the tax form, and he just requires you do it without telling you. We spent three months to learn first three chapters, then spend three weeks to learn next three chapters, next we used one class to learn the last three chapters.

Just completed his tax course for Fall '13 semester. Most of the things people say here are true. I like to add that ALL his exams are opened book so there shouldn't be any reason for failing. Do your hw, read the chapters, and you'll be fine. He does take attendance and he will pick on people randomly in class just to make sure ppl did their hw.

Professor relies heaviliy on textbook. Has poor time management which reulted in us skipping about three chapters. However, he goes through every type of problem that will be on the exam and he breaks it down for everyone to understand.

Great guy but a HORRIBLE professor. Believes in calling on people randomly. Throws random questions about history and language in class. His notes are all over the place and barely legible. His exams are horrible, none of the material that was gone over in class appear on the exam. Had to scale both exams by 20 points (its that bad).DONT TAKE HIM!!!

Professor Vogel is an excellent teacher. He is very old school, but is still effective. If you pay attention in class and do the homework consistently, then you should wind up with a B. The tests are fairly challenging but its nothing that isn't covered in class. Just become prepared and ready, learned alot, very funny, very entertaining.
