Alex just spouts and reads from the textbook. Not an engaging professor at all. She has a high regard of herself, which comes across to the students. Attendance is counted everyday by handing in a note at the beginning of each class with something you have written down from the readings. She also tends to glorify communism.

An exceptional and brilliant professor that pushes her students to use their heads and think. Her marks accurately reflect the effort. She is also a very experienced and talented filmmaker & editor, and provides very good feedback on work to make you better at what you do. Lucky to have had her as a prof.

Says "Um" more than actual lecture material. Makes film history incredibly boring, and I like film history. I wish I didn't have to take this class. She just goes over whats in the textbook.

Ryerson promotes creativity and stepping out of our creative box but when that is completed, this teacher does not seem to appreciate that. Instead she digs deeper into something that isn't there and does not take things at face value. If you are in film at Ryerson beware of this teacher and just stick to an uncreative issue.

I really enjoyed this class, but I love history! Her lectures are interesting but more many others, too long & too early (9am lectures...) She expects you to study, participate, engage in the lectures, and read the textbook!

Alex is very understanding and helpful when dealing with narratives and documentaries. She gives good advice but does not force the students take it. She seems less knowledgeable about anything experimental or abstract and is thus far less useful to first year/ first semester students.

Alex was the best teacher I ever had in my whole entire life. She is brilliant, inspiring, and beyond helpful. She sets a high standard in her doc classes and while you struggle to meet it, you'll end up producing the best work that you're capable of, unlike other profs who give A's for filming yourself pee. If you're in her class, you're lucky.

the best of the profs, all four of them that were actually good in the film program from 1996-2000, the only real inspirational teacher who wasn't a failure at their craft and resorted to teaching, she's the real deal! thanks alex!!!
