Comment:
2 papers, a quiz and a final. Extremely boring and monotone lecturer. Moves at a glacial pace. Attendance not mandatory or helpful (use slides), but highly recommend Friday seminars to actually learn and discuss the material in an engaging environment - the only saving grace for this course. Will not take from him again and would not recommend.

Professor Rueger seems like a nice guy, but he is a very unengaging lecturer. The class would a lot more interesting if he altered his teaching style. If you are willing to sit through the lectures and do the readings you can pull off a decent mark. That being said, I would not take one of his classes again.

Professor Rueger is soft spoken but very passionate about his subject. He listens and responds thoughtfully during class discussions. If you need theatrics to stay awake during class, I would not recommend him. Every lecture slightly changed my life perspective.

This guy's body language screams: I DON'T WANT TO BE HERE! I HATE PUBLIC SPEAKING! He's speech is irregular, ineloquent and repetitive. He knows what he's talking about, but he's not a good teacher.

He is so boring he literally has no facial expression and he talks SO slowly. Like he takes all these pauses in the middle of his sentences and they're so drawn out that by the time he starts talking again I already forgot what he said in the first place, like are you alive??

This course is pretty much just philosophy of physics. You get to study Newton, Leibniz, Einstein, etc., and their views of space. I wouldn't recommend this class if you don't have any background in physics. I've taken quite a few classes with Dr. Rueger. He is very knowledgeable, but hard to impress.

Comment:
Dr. Rueger is a good lecture and a knowledgeable philosopher. The course is not difficult, most students have trouble with the material because students often have difficulty with the level of abstraction of metaphysics. Class average is kept around 70%-75% for both quizzes and papers, so I definitely would not say that he is a though marker.

Alright. I am not a philosophy student and was taking it to try something new. I got very confused on the topics despite it being an "intro" course. Terminology was foreign to me. I had to read the chapters over and over then google the topic to make sense of it. Marks pretty fair, but seems unapproachable since he was pretty stuck on his opinions.

Really great prof. Teaches Kant, Hegel, Marx & Nietzsche in the clearest and most understandable way possible, often offering insights on complicated German terms that are not annotated in the texts. A little too much time spent on Kant, though (~ half the course). His exams are also on the SU exam registry, so, structure your notes around those.

He's easily one of the best phil profs in the department, I thought he was fantastic. He's got high expectations, but they're not unfair, just pay attention to his lectures. "Prof for thinkers" is accurate. He's not very outgoing, but he's a really nice guy and is always more than willing to help if you ask. I'd highly recommend any of his classes.

As said by someone else, he's a prof for thinkers. But it is philosophy, so if you're in the class then what else would you expect? He's a tough marker, but in the end grades seem to be fair. Exam questions were worded strangely, though.

Has high standards which put off a lot of students, but if you like philosophy and put some though into your work you'll be fine. His lectures aren't exciting but they are interesting if you have an attention span. I found him open to be open minded but intelligent. A prof for thinkers.

slight accent , doesn't want to be in class, needs to take some education classes to sharpen teaching-boring overheads from the 60's -do have to interpret info same way he does or bad mark 4 U. I didn't need to get a good mark thankfully but several people did need one and couldn't do it. Absolutely no perception outside his own.

He is the most boring person on the planet and his lectures do little to explain the course material. The quizzes seem to be misguided in that they follow no logical pattern and he does not explain what they will be on. BOO.

This dude's the most boring guy on the planet. He obviously doesn't want to be in class! He is also unwilling to accept any opinions if they do not support his own. Don't expect to get good marks unless you memorize exactly what he says and write about it. Don't dare interpret anything on your own!

I was sooooo excited to take this class until my first lecture. This prof is boring and doesn't seem to understand what he is teaching. He definately doesn't have a passion for the 'philosophy of science'. Do yourself a favour, expecially if you're a science major, and choose another elective!
