Loved Dr. Bailey. She is very kind, caring, knowledgeable, with a good sense of humor. If you take her class, please participate; it will make your experience better and she'll appreciate you for it. Her choices of books were excellent. It's a literature class, so obviously be prepared to read.

Good prof overall. Enjoy movies in class and discuss with students for the grading. Only thing that I disliked was writing 250 words' essay in 20 mins. Barely have time to think. Other than that was fine.

Professor Bailey's diverse choices of films really shows how the Hong Kong Film Industry has developed into popular cinema. With that said, it's important to keep up with the readings as in her quizzes/ papers she expects you to incorporate them into your argument. On the bright side, she is soft spoken and is willing to help.

Great teacher! Slow and nice speaker! Great for non-native speakers! She mastered great amount of Chinese literature and I truly admired her. She was also willing to help and write reference letter for me.

She has such passion & knowledge about Chinese. lit. No knowledge for Chinese is needed for this class. DEFINITELY do some reading at least, she helps you understand and appreciate the literature. I feel awful for her because so many students don't read and miss out on this amazing world of Chi. Lit. Do reading, get fascinated. Essays opinions.

Professor Bailey is simply a delight. She is always happy when she lectures and has a quirky sense of humour. Her lectures in the history of Chinese cinema have been very interesting thus far; her choice in film is great too. Overall a very pleasant and consistent prof. She even answers emails late at night and responds promptly.

Must buy the course package, as she uses specific poems/stories unable to be found online. She has a lot of knowledge about the subject, and seems passionate about chinese culture. Must attend class mainly because of attendance marks. Midterms are easy, and expect one term paper and a final exam which is not cumulative. Do readings before class !

One of the kindest and caring professors i've had at UBC. I have taken both ASIA363 and 325 with her. Her 363 is a literature heavy course, but its honestly opinion/discussion based. My only tip with taking her is to raise your hand up and voice your thought because she loves discussion and she will reward you for doing so!

She is a highly experienced professor. However, she likes to give ambiguous instructions and likes to ask strange questions on exams. Attendance and participation are worth 10% of the final grade. The paper is long, 2500 words.

Awesome professor. Lots of opportunity to ask questions, etc. IF you bother to read the text. Knows her stuff and will go out of her way to help if you're actually interested.

Super nice woman who will go out of her way to help students, even those who don't deserve it. Always willing to give her time to answer questions and give help. People, she teaches literature courses: quit whining about having to read. Do the work, go to class, take notes, put some effort into your papers, and you'll do well.

It's a literature course, so it's expected that there's lots of reading. The notes she provides are more of a summary for those who don't bother reading the book. She's passionate about what she teaches and that makes a lot of difference. Very helpful and sincere in answering questions from students.

yeah..lots of overhead notes, but doesn't mean that they were of any use. Tons to read, yes, and the TA sucked. Vague explanations, not always available when needed. Hard marker and tough papers. Otherwise she's an ok person.

unorganized overhead notes and totally unfair marking (probably due to the TA) & way too much reading, even for a lit course. apparently you're supposed to memorize minute details from two 500-600 page novels & 5 other 50pg short stories to let her know that you've read the dam things? unless you have no life & live to read, don't take it with her

She's very nice and helpful, but I didn't care for her style of teaching - lots of overhead notes. Wasn't able to get class engaged in discussions so I thought the lectures were pretty boring.
